Google Flights has released new search data showing which destinations are seeing the strongest growth in interest among US travellers planning trips for summer 2026, with St. Maarten topping the international list and Kansas City leading domestic searches.
The data covers flight searches departing from US airports between 1 June and 31 August 2026, and reflects year-over-year growth in search activity rather than confirmed bookings.
International destinations on the rise
The international ranking spans a broad range of travel styles, from Caribbean beach breaks to European city escapes. Beach-focused destinations appear alongside major cultural capitals, pointing to varied demand among US travellers heading abroad this summer.

Domestic searches point beyond gateway cities
On the domestic side, the list stretches well beyond major gateway cities. California and Florida each place multiple destinations in the ranking, while the inclusion of Asheville and Missoula reflects continued appetite for scenic and outdoor travel, a trend that gained momentum following the pandemic.

Search trends as an early demand signal
Google notes that the data captures search activity rather than confirmed travel. The company says search trends frequently serve as an early indicator of demand, particularly during peak periods such as the summer season.
