Maldives Bans Entry for Israeli Passport Holders

The Maldives has officially banned entry for Israeli passport holders. This decision came after a recent parliamentary vote.

The legislation was proposed by the main opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and it was passed by a majority vote in the parliament.

The law will now be reviewed by the Security Committee. Both ruling and opposition members urged for a swift implementation, reflecting the government’s and the public’s wishes.

Once finalized, the ban will apply to all Israeli passport holders, including those with dual citizenship. This move follows recent protests in the Maldives against Israeli citizens entering the country.

Earlier this month, the Maldivian President’s Office announced plans to prevent Israeli passport holders from entering. This decision aligns with the widespread public sentiment and demonstrations.

The new law marks a significant change in the Maldives’ entry policies. It is part of the broader response to public and governmental calls for stricter entry regulations regarding Israeli citizens.
