Uzbekistan Aims to Regain Pre-Pandemic Tourism Numbers in 2023

In the first seven months of 2023, Uzbekistan welcomed 3.68 million tourists from abroad, as stated by the Uzbekistan State Statistics Agency.

The largest group of visitors hailed from Tajikistan, with an impressive count of 1,151,400 tourists. Following Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan contributed 912,800 visitors, Kazakhstan sent 879,000, Russia 417,400, Turkey 58,000, South Korea 20,200, India 20,000, China 17,700, and Germany 14,100.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2019, Uzbekistan had seen 6.748 million tourists. The nation’s goal for this year is to match or surpass those pre-pandemic figures.

In contrast, tourism numbers were severely impacted by the pandemic in 2020, with just about 1.5 million tourists visiting the country. By 2021, this number slightly improved as 1.8 million tourists entered Uzbekistan. However, 2022 witnessed a commendable surge, with the country welcoming 5.2 million visitors, marking a 2.8-fold increase from the previous year. (AA)
