Pegasus Airlines Expands Fleet with Airbus Agreement for 36 A321neo Aircraft

Pegasus Airlines has announced a new agreement with Airbus to acquire 36 A321neo aircraft, aligning with the airline’s strategy to modernize its fleet and prioritize fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, and cost savings.

This order is an extension of Pegasus’ existing partnership with Airbus, modifying a 2012 order for 100 A320/321neo family aircraft to now include a total of 150 aircraft, with 108 being A321neos.

The delivery of the 36 newly ordered aircraft, combined with previous orders, is set to be completed by the end of 2029. Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines, highlighted the company’s commitment to operational efficiency, financial performance, and sustainability. She stated, “With these goals in mind, we continue to work diligently and determinedly towards our strategy of fleet modernization, focusing on fuel and unit cost savings, and emission reductions.”

Öztürk emphasized the environmental benefits of the A321neo, adding, “By adding 36 new 239-seater A321neo aircraft, which are the most efficient aircraft type in their class, we will both expand and modernize our fleet.” With an average fleet age of 4.5 years, Pegasus currently boasts one of the youngest fleets among low-cost carriers worldwide, contributing to reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

The A321neo, as the largest member of the Airbus medium-range single-aisle family, offers significant advantages in terms of capacity utilization with its 239-seat configuration. It also features the new generation LEAP-1A engines, which deliver improved fuel efficiency. Airbus states that the A321neo is 15-20% more fuel-efficient and emits fewer carbon emissions per seat-kilometer compared to previous models.

Pegasus Airlines has been actively pursuing initiatives towards achieving net-zero emissions. In addition to fleet modernization, the airline’s efforts include operational efficiency improvements, increased utilization of sustainable aviation fuel, and a focus on alternative energy sources. Öztürk expressed the company’s commitment to maintaining its leading position in the industry with an innovative, responsible, and principled approach.

With this strategic partnership with Airbus, Pegasus Airlines aims to strengthen its fleet capabilities, reduce its environmental footprint, and enhance its overall operational efficiency. The addition of the A321neo aircraft will play a vital role in supporting the airline’s growth trajectory and commitment to sustainability in the years to come.
