Qatar Airways has unveiled a new onboard theme song, ‘The Ascent,’ composed by the airline’s Official Composer, Dana Al Fardan. Marking a new era in air travel post-World Cup, the piece is now available through Oryx One Inflight Entertainment on Qatar Airways flights.
The music, performed by members of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, aims to create a serene and unforgettable in-flight experience for passengers. Dana Al Fardan’s compositions have become an integral part of the Qatar Airways identity and are now synonymous with luxury and style in air travel.
Dana Al Fardan first collaborated with Qatar Airways in 2016 to create onboard theme music. Her latest work, ‘The Ascent,’ is the final installment in a trilogy that includes two previous themes, ‘The Awakening’ and ‘The Dawn.’ The music incorporates a blend of Arabic and classical instruments such as the piano, violin, viola, and cello, often including Arabic-specific instruments like the Ney and the Rababa to create a unique auditory experience.
Qatar Airways Group CEO, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, expressed his pride in Al Fardan’s work: “Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries. Dana’s onboard music is not just an auditory experience but also a representation of Qatari culture through sophisticated art.”
Dana Al Fardan announced that on September 10, 2023, an Extended Play (EP) titled ‘Trilogy of the Ascent’ will be released. “The trilogy captures the evolution in our shared human experience over the last six years. It reflects the spirit that seeks to take flight and constantly ascend to higher fields of knowledge,” she said.
Al Fardan, who has also showcased her work in London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket and composed for international musicals like ‘Broken Wings’ and ‘Rumi: The Musical,’ aims to preserve the authenticity of Arabic musical styles while introducing them to a broader audience.
Oryx One Inflight Entertainment offers passengers over 7,000 entertainment options, including the latest blockbusters, TV shows, and a music library featuring more than 2,000 choices. Dana Al Fardan’s ‘Trilogy of the Ascent’ will be available on all streaming platforms from September 10, 2023, in addition to its availability on Oryx One.
