The Taksim Maksem, a significant historical structure built by Sultan Mahmud I between 1732-33, has been meticulously restored to preserve its original character. The restoration not only strengthens the structure but also revitalizes it as a public museum, blending traditional design with contemporary functionality.

The Republic Museum, housed in one of Taksim Square’s iconic buildings, is set to become a prominent symbol of the Republic’s spirit. The museum’s exhibits, events, and activities are designed to reflect the values and achievements of the Republic, making it a key cultural destination in Istanbul.

Taksim Square, already renowned for the Republic Monument unveiled on August 8, 1928, continues to be one of Istanbul’s most significant meeting points. The new Republic Museum enhances this identity, offering residents and visitors a deeper connection to Turkey’s historical and cultural heritage.

İBB Miras has transformed numerous cultural landmarks into public spaces since 2019, and the Republic Museum is its latest project. By reviving the Taksim Maksem, İBB Miras has created a space that honors the past while serving the present and future.

Supported by contributions from Osmantan Erkır, the İBB Atatürk Museum in Şişli, the İBB Fire Brigade Museum Cer Collection, and the İBB Atatürk Library City Museum Collection, the Republic Museum is a testament to Istanbul’s rich history.

Celebrating the Republic’s centennial with a series of significant events and projects, the Republic Museum, gifted by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is open every day except Monday, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Admission fees are 15 TL for discounted tickets, 50 TL for general admission, and 100 TL for tourists.
