InterContinental Hotels & Resorts opens InterContinental Halong Bay Resort within Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay on 14 November 2025, introducing a new luxury property inside the twice-recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site. The resort brings 275 rooms, suites and villas, multiple dining venues and a wide range of leisure facilities to one of the country’s most visited coastal destinations.
The brand positions the launch as part of its global evolution and continued expansion across key travel markets. Jesper Larsen, General Manager, said: “InterContinental has been hosting guests for almost 80 years in every corner of the world. We are incredibly proud to extend this ethos to the shores of Ha Long Bay, an area famed for some of Vietnam’s best beaches.”
Design, Architecture and Guest Experience
The resort is designed to showcase the landscape of Ha Long Bay through contemporary coastal elements and regionally inspired architecture. Led by WATG, the exterior incorporates narratives drawn from local folklore and the surrounding seascape, with interiors by P49Deesign highlighting Vietnam’s cultural motifs. Bamboo basket boat forms appear throughout the lobby, while guestrooms feature turquoise upholstery, brass accents and marine-influenced textures.
The property includes six dining venues. Marina Kitchen serves modern coastal cuisine with a focus on seafood, while La Baguette offers French-Vietnamese dishes. Del Mar, a poolside lounge modeled after the floating village of Cửa Vạn, serves light fare and drinks, and Vue provides afternoon tea and cocktails in a bay-facing lobby lounge. Roku & Star Bar, set to open later this year on the 10th floor, will introduce Japanese cuisine through six traditional techniques and will feature a curated Sake Library and bamboo installation inspired by Ha Long’s descending dragon legend.
Wellness, Activities and Family Facilities
Hidden Lagoon, the resort’s signature spa, offers treatments inspired by the calm environment of Ha Long Bay. Developed in partnership with British brand Margaret Dabbs London and Australian clean beauty label Sodashi, the spa menu ranges from facial rituals to sensory therapies. Guests also have access to beach volleyball, outdoor archery and three swimming pools.
Planet Trekkers, the family-friendly activity centre, welcomes children aged 4 to 12 with programs such as conical hat painting, candle making, canvas bag decorating and face painting. For teens and families, The Game Room provides a cinema, internet gaming and table-style activities including billiards, darts, foosball and air hockey.
Event facilities include the Tonkin Ballroom and Cat Ba Ballroom, both positioned for corporate meetings, celebrations and large-scale gatherings. Additional function rooms support conferences and incentive groups, aligning with the brand’s focus on both leisure and business travel segments.
The resort’s opening aligns with InterContinental’s broader strategy to reimagine luxury travel while maintaining consistency across its global portfolio. Larsen said the property aims to merge the brand’s established identity with local influences: “InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is a place where the serenity of the sea meets with Vietnamese hospitality. Our entire guest experience is inspired by the modern luxury traveller – a guest who is culturally curious and drawn to the world around them.”
With the launch, InterContinental strengthens its footprint in Vietnam, adding to the country’s existing portfolio of seven hotels under the brand. The opening also takes place as InterContinental approaches its 80th anniversary in 2026, underscoring the company’s view that travel can broaden perspectives and enhance cultural understanding.
The property joins a global collection of more than 231 InterContinental hotels across major destinations worldwide. Positioned within Ha Long Bay’s natural environment, the new resort is expected to appeal to domestic and international travellers seeking coastal scenery, cultural experiences and access to Vietnam’s northeastern attractions.
