IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened the Crowne Plaza Istanbul Zeytinburnu, a new property located beside the city’s historic land walls. The hotel was inaugurated with an official ceremony as part of the group’s continued growth strategy in Türkiye.
The property sits inside the Turkish Basketball Federation’s Basketball Development Centre, giving it a distinctive position among the city’s hotels. It offers 124 rooms, including 120 standard rooms and 4 deluxe rooms, spread across two floors.
The hotel’s location near Istanbul’s ancient city walls gives it convenient access for both business travellers and tourists exploring the historic district. Its placement within a sports complex also positions it to serve athletes, sports organisations and event teams alongside its regular guests.
The project was developed by investor Almaty Investment Corporation, marking a new addition to IHG’s expanding portfolio in Türkiye. The Crowne Plaza brand already maintains a presence across the country, and this opening adds another property to that network.
Sermin Akın, IHG Director of Development for Türkiye, highlighted the importance of the partnership behind the project. She said the new property forms a significant part of the company’s growth strategy in the country, which is built on strong brands and the right partnerships.
Industry representatives expect the hotel to make a meaningful contribution to Istanbul’s overall accommodation capacity. The facility is anticipated to draw strong interest from both domestic and international travellers, adding to tourism activity in the surrounding area.
The hotel is also expected to support sports tourism in the city, given its location within the basketball development facility. Organisers of sporting events and training programmes are likely to view the property as a convenient base for teams and delegations visiting Istanbul.
With the opening, IHG strengthens its footprint in Istanbul while reinforcing the city’s position in the international tourism and hospitality market. The company has positioned the project as part of a broader strategy to expand its presence in Türkiye through targeted investment partnerships.
