The Noto Satoyama ‘Pokémon With You’ Airport officially opened its doors on 7 July 2026, transforming the existing Noto Satoyama Airport into the world’s first airport named after Pokémon. The limited-time makeover will run through to September 2029.
Noto Satoyama is a small domestic airport with two daily flights arriving from Haneda and two leaving. The flight time is about one hour. The airport is around a 30 minute drive from Wajima with buses available throughout the day.
About Noto
The Noto Peninsula is a 100-kilometer stretch of land that juts out into the sea, making up the northern area of Ishikawa Prefecture. The Noto Peninsula is a remote region of Japan that remains unexplored by the majority of overseas visitors and is less than an hour from the popular tourist destination of Kanazawa.
Noto’s thriving agricultural traditions and crafts offer a window into the area’s distinctive culture. Visitors can fully enjoy Noto’s beautiful sea views, natural scenery, gourmet food, hot springs, history, culture, and more. The charming town of Wajima is a centre of culture on the Noto Peninsula. It is best known for 500 years of lacquerware production and its lively morning market.
Airport to bring cheer after earthquake
The project is part of a partnership between Ishikawa Prefecture on Honshu Island and the Pokémon With You Foundation, which was created to support tourism and bring cheer back to the region following the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on 1 January 2024. The entire airport is being turned into a Pokémon-filled experience from the moment travelers arrive.
Inside the airport’s two-story atrium, visitors will be greeted by a giant Pikachu balloon soaring alongside an airplane, surrounded by Flying-type Pokémon decorations. In fact, all 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered as of May 2026 will appear somewhere throughout the airport. The arrival lobby will also feature recovery-support artwork inspired by Noto’s landscapes, alongside giant monuments of Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun.
The observation deck, called “Pikachu’s Village,” will feature countless Pikachu gathered together in a satoyama-inspired rural landscape scene. Visitors can also unlock original short videos on their smartphones while exploring the airport, including a story called “Fly, Bagon!” about a Bagon dreaming of flight.
The airport’s Restaurant Annon will serve exclusive Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks, while airport shops will stock limited-edition souvenirs like luggage tags, suitcase belts, shirts, and keychains featuring original “Sky of Hope” artwork.
