With over 16 million seats available per year, easyJet is the largest airline in Berlin. In addition to the 12 aircraft already stationed at Schönefeld, easyJet has expanded its operations at Berlin Tegel Airport by adding 25 aircraft to its fleet at the Berlin location. Aircraft were also rented in the meantime during the transition phase under so-called wet lease agreements, but now flight operations will be carried out as scheduled with the launch of the winter flight schedule using the company’s own easyJet aircraft.
A considerable number of new jobs have also been created as a result of the airline’s growing commitment: nearly 700 new easyJet employees have already been hired at the base at Berlin Tegel. During the recruitment process easyJet was able to welcome more than 400 former airberlin employees (more than 180 pilots and 220 on-board staff) to the team.
In the coming weeks, further positions will be filled at Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schönefeld. For those interested in applying, there will be an open day for flight attendants in Berlin on 31 October and on 1 November and further dates are being scheduled. Thomas Haagensen, Group Markets Director at easyJet says, “As the largest airline in Berlin, we are pleased to offer our passengers at Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schönefeld airports even more choice with the current launch of 14 new connections, and to record a growth of 58 percent compared to last year. Two of these connections, Aqaba (from Berlin Schönefeld) and Warsaw (from Berlin Tegel), are new destinations in easyJet’s route network and underline the continuous expansion of our services in Germany and Europe, so that our customers can benefit from an even wider range of flights and even lower prices.
easyJet has been a reliable partner for people and the Berlin and Brandenburg region for a long time and with the opening of our base at the beginning of the year, we were able to lay the foundation for further easyJet investments. The expansion of our operations at Berlin Tegel Airport went according to plan and we are already looking forward to welcoming almost 700 new easyJet employees to our team. However, the recruitment process and training activities are not finished yet and we expect to hire more employees in the coming weeks.”
Patrick Muller, Head of Operations at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, “easyJet shows great commitment to Berlin and the routes we offer here are now more diverse thanks to their new connections. As the largest airline in the German capital, easyJet makes a significant contribution to the growth in passenger numbers at Berlin’s airports. This is very encouraging and is proof of our exceptionally good cooperation.”
