United to Connect NY with Tenerife—A Prime LGBTQ+ Destination

Tenerife

The agreement reached by Turismo de Tenerife to establish and consolidate the direct connection between the island and New York, through a United Airlines flight, starts next June 9, with an approximate duration of six and a half hours.

The president of the Cabildo and of Tourism of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, emphasizes the intense work that has been carried out with United Airlines to achieve, "for the first time, this connection with the objective of consolidating it in the next two years".

The connection will be made by means of a Boeing 757-300 aircraft, "with an initial number of seats of 13,400, through three weekly frequencies that will connect Newark Liberty International Airport with Tenerife South", and added that "the objective is to consolidate it within two years".

The CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, pointed out that the outbound Tenerife South-New York route will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9.50 p.m. and the return flight on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 12.00 noon, with a duration of six and a half hours, and explained the details of the negotiation that has been carried out, mainly, in the last year.

"This is great news, the result of intense negotiations that began months ago and that opens, from now on, the door to a new tourist market, but also for business, congresses, filming, as well as the installation of companies attracted by our tax benefits, as well as the island's own population that, for the first time, will be able to travel to New York directly", said Martin.

Now, with the support of TURESPAÑA—the government organization in charge of promoting Spain as a travel destination around the world—Tenerife will start a promotional campaign to bring awareness to the US travelers. The first action will be their attendance to the USTOA convention of tour operators and travel agents in the United States in San Diego, California this December. In addition to the intense promotional campaign, Tenerife will open a representative office in the US.

It is worth to highlight that 18,000 US tourists visited the island in 2019.  It is also important to remark that Tenerife is a prime LGBTQ+ destination that hosts a multitude of interesting events for the LGBTQ+ collective, such as the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Pride or the LGBTQ+ Carnival with the spectacular Drag Queen Gala in the capital of Tenerife. In Guía de Isora you can enjoy pool parties on the last Saturday of each month at La Finca de Papá. The program of activities is completed with the CanBeGay Film Festival.

In the area of Playa de las Américas, one of the largest tourist resorts in the Canary Islands, you can enjoy beaches such as Playa de la Tejita, Montaña Roja, Montaña Amarilla and Playa de Diego Hernández. Very close to the party area, you can find wonderful resorts where you can have a wonderful stay. Do not miss the well-known Stonewall sauna, one of the three on the island along with Babylon, in the town of Puerto de la Cruz, and Boss and Acuario, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In addition, an interesting and ambitious LGBTQ+ event focused on culture is held on the beach of Las Americas: ARN.
