JetBlue Expands Grenada Service for Spicemas Festival

JetBlue is set to expand its services to Grenada, adding a second daily nonstop flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport to Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) from August 7 to September 1, 2023.

The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) stated that the move comes just in time for the island’s biggest cultural festival, Spicemas.

The added service will operate with a 162-seat A320 aircraft, complementing JetBlue’s existing daily nonstop service from New York. American Airlines also offers daily nonstop flights from Miami and a seasonal weekly flight from Charlotte on Saturdays. Anticipating the rise in family travel to Grenada, JetBlue has upscaled its regular service from an A320 to a 200-seat A321, effective throughout the summer peak period from June 15 to September 5.

The Honorable Lennox Andrews, Minister for Economic Development, Planning, Tourism and ICT, Creative Economy, Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, expressed delight over JetBlue’s extended service, asserting that it offers travelers more options to visit Grenada. The Minister anticipates a surge in bookings, giving Grenada and its stakeholders the chance to attract more visitors for Spicemas and exhibit the island’s rich culture.

The CEO of the GTA, Petra Roach, highlighted that the USA is Grenada’s largest tourism market and continues to perform exceptionally well. In 2022, US tourism to Grenada saw a 2% increase compared to 2019, and between January and February 2023, the market grew 19% over the same period in 2019 and 3% over the same period in 2022.

Grenada 473 Connect Ambassador, Margaret Hector, lauded JetBlue’s initiative to add a redeye flight from JFK to Grenada for the Spicemas season, providing an excellent opportunity for carnival lovers and individuals considering a last-minute weekend getaway.
