Greece Announces 10-day Quarantine for All

Athens lockdown

Greece announced a mandatory 10-day quarantine for all travelers arriving in the country from abroad between Friday, December 18 and Thursday, January 7, 2021.

The new measures announced by the government in order to attempt to restrict the transmission of the coronavirus over the holiday season.

The self-isolation will include Greek students returning for the holidays from abroad, or anyone traveling for business or other reasons.

Furthermore, all travelers must have a negative result from a PCR Covid-19 test in hand in order to enter Greece. They will also be subject to a rapid Covid-19 test upon arrival at the airport.

All travelers must complete their Passenger Locator Form (PLF) until the day before entering the country, providing detailed information on their point of departure, the duration of previous stays in other countries, and the address of their stay while in Greece. In case of multiple stays, they are required to provide the address for the first 24 hours at least. One PLF should be submitted per family.

Travelers will receive a confirmation email upon submission of the PLF.

Travelers will receive the PLF with their unique Quick Response (QR) code on the day of their scheduled arrival in Greece (at midnight) and will be notified via email (the QR code will be provided in a link in the confirmation email).

Travelers boarding or embarking on the previous day of the arrival will be allowed to do so upon showing the confirmation email, since they will receive their QR code during their flight or voyage.

The PLF can also be found on the Visit Greece app.

Further, people traveling to Greece should be aware that as of November 6, 2020 Greece is in lockdown. More information about eligible ways and means of transport and movement permits within Greece is available on forma.gov.gr.

This does also apply to Greek citizens, permanent residents of Greece and travelers for essential professional reasons.

Greek authorities on Friday announced that travelers who test positive for Covid-19 at Greece’s land borders will be denied entrance to the country.

Lockdown in Greece

Greece announced a nationwide lockdown on November 5. People are only allowed to leave their homes for work, physical exercise and medical reasons – and only after sending a text message to authorities.

Shops shut, although supermarkets and other food stores remain open. Restaurants operate on a delivery-only basis.

After extending the lockdown, which will impact a wide range of activities until January 7, people are wondering if the retail stores and churches will open for the Christmas season.

The final decisions are expected to be announced on Saturday.

Greek health authorities on Tuesday announced 102 fatalities, which brought the overall number to 3,194, while reporting another 1,382 new cases of coronavirus.
