Elkonin Tel Aviv Opens its Doors, Reviving Tel Aviv’s Historic Hotel with a Touch of Modernity

Elkonin Tel Aviv, a distinguished property belonging to the renowned MGallery Hotel Collection opens. Situated in Tel Aviv’s charming Neve Tzedek neighborhood, the hotel is housed within the city’s first-ever hotel, originally constructed in 1913. Following a soft launch in February 2023, the Elkonin Tel Aviv is now ready to welcome guests.

The meticulous restoration of Elkonin Tel Aviv was undertaken by architecture studio Bar Orian, in collaboration with interior design studio ICONIQUE. The property seamlessly combines the original building’s historic charm with a contemporary glass tower, symbolizing the city’s past and present.

Steeped in history, the hotel was initially built in 1913 by Malka and Menachem Elkonin in iconic Eclectic architecture and Art Deco styles. The establishment quickly became a gathering place for notable figures from the worlds of art, literature, politics, and royalty, including luminaries such as Albert Einstein, King Abdullah of Jordan, and Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion.

After a period of dormancy, the hotel was acquired in 2004 by Franco-Israeli entrepreneur Dominique Romano, who was captivated by its rich heritage and embarked on an avant-garde French-style revival of the boutique hotel.

Collaborating with local architecture firm Bar Orian, Romano restored the 20th-century property while preserving its original architectural motifs. The addition of a sleek and modern glass tower provides access to the seventh-floor rooftop, which features an exclusive swimming pool with striped-tile flooring and the Rooftop Bar, inspired by the elegance of the French Riviera. From this vantage point, guests can enjoy panoramic views of the Tel Aviv cityscape and the Mediterranean Sea.

The interiors of Elkonin Tel Aviv were designed by Adriana Schor of ICONIQUE studio, who aimed to create a timeless and sophisticated European-style ambiance. The hotel exudes understated elegance and simplicity, drawing inspiration from Tel Aviv’s cultural richness and the spirit of the French Riviera. Soft materials, neutral colors, and exquisite details such as herringbone floors, rattan accents, custom-made Italian terrazzo, and original ceramic tiles contribute to the hotel’s serene atmosphere. Elkonin Tel Aviv offers 42 thoughtfully designed rooms and two suites, featuring well-appointed bathrooms stocked with Clarins amenities and bespoke furniture created exclusively for the project.

At Elkonin Tel Aviv’s ground floor, guests will find the crown jewel of the hotel, L’Époque by Jöel Robuchon. Additionally, a private dining space for up to 20 guests, designed in a library-style setting, is available. The restaurant also features a Bar Lounge, serving guests from morning until night.

Elkonin Tel Aviv is committed to providing tranquility to its guests and houses Israel’s first spa by Clarins.
