IHG Expands Across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean

IHG expands across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean, reinforcing its strategic commitment to growth and innovation in the region. With nearly 400 open and pipeline hotels, the global hospitality brand is making significant investments in urban centers, beach destinations, and emerging markets. These developments span every market segment—from luxury and lifestyle to midscale and extended stay—offering travelers more choices than ever before.

As a featured presenter and patron sponsor at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit Caribbean & Latin America (ALIS CALA), IHG Hotels & Resorts reaffirmed its ambitious regional plans. Nearly 100 new properties are expected to open in the coming years, reflecting growing demand and confidence from investors, owners, and guests in IHG’s brand portfolio.

Luxury & Lifestyle Brands Lead the Way

IHG is particularly focused on expanding its luxury and lifestyle presence throughout the region. In 2024, IHG opened several new properties, including Six Senses La Sagesse Grenada, Kimpton Mas Olas Resort and Spa in Baja California, Mexico, and Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman. These high-end offerings blend thoughtful design, local culture, and immersive experiences, with several also featuring branded residences for extended stays and ownership options.

More luxury is on the way. The SOUMA Hotel Lima, Vignette Collection, opened in March 2025, is the brand’s first in South America. Located in Lima’s Miraflores neighborhood, the hotel features minimalist decor inspired by the Pacaya Samiria Nature Reserve, three signature restaurants, a rooftop infinity pool, and a serene spa. It sets a new benchmark for boutique luxury in Peru.

Additional hotels scheduled to open in Lima this year include the InterContinental Real Lima Miraflores and Hotel Indigo Lima Miraflores, strengthening IHG’s foothold in the Peruvian capital.

Midscale Growth Supports Regional Travel Demand

IHG’s midscale brands continue to thrive across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The Holiday Inn brand family remains a core driver, with more than 200 open and pipeline properties throughout the region. Value-conscious and design-minded travelers also have new options on the horizon.

The avid hotels brand is poised for rapid expansion in Mexico, with nine additional properties planned. One standout project is a dual-brand development in Torreon, combining avid hotels with Candlewood Suites, which targets extended-stay guests.

Another major milestone was the March 2025 opening of avid hotel Queretaro Centro Sur, the brand’s fifth hotel in Mexico and its first in the state of Queretaro. Designed to deliver “essentials done exceptionally well,” the hotel offers comfort and value with modern amenities and convenient access to top regional attractions such as the Acueducto de Querétaro and Corregidora Stadium.

Design-conscious travelers will soon be able to experience the Atwell Suites brand for the first time in Latin America. A newly signed project in Costa Rica will introduce the flexible space concept in a dual-brand development alongside Holiday Inn.

Iconic Openings Highlight Momentum

IHG’s regional momentum is evident in its growing list of recent openings. In January 2025, the InterContinental Presidente Monterrey debuted in the prestigious San Pedro Garza Garcia neighborhood, offering panoramic views of the Sierra Madre mountains. With nearly 300 rooms, the hotel blends tranquility, elegance, and more than 75 years of InterContinental brand heritage.

In Hermosillo, the voco Hermosillo reopened in late 2024 following a full conversion. The 138-room hotel invites guests to “come on in” and enjoy premium amenities, thoughtful design, and convenient access to both corporate offices and cultural landmarks such as the Cathedral of Hermosillo and La Ruina Park.

Looking to the future, IHG is also preparing for the 2026 opening of Kimpton Monterrey. Located within Torre Rise—the soon-to-be tallest tower in Latin America—this boutique hotel will offer breathtaking city views, high-end dining, and branded residences. A 16th-floor lobby lounge and full-service restaurant are expected to elevate the guest experience in Mexico’s second-largest economic market.

Regional Strategy and Vision

Jolyon Bulley, Chief Executive Officer for the Americas at IHG, emphasized the importance of the region in IHG’s broader growth strategy. “From idyllic tropical getaways to well-located destinations for urban escapes and corporate travel, IHG continues its solid growth across Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said. “With nearly 100 properties set to join our regional portfolio in the coming years, our continued expansion highlights the trust owners and guests have in our brands and their distinct offerings.”

This expansion aligns with IHG’s global approach of investing in markets that show strong long-term demand for travel, business, and tourism. The diversity of the MLAC region—encompassing cosmopolitan capitals, emerging secondary cities, and coastal resort areas—offers ample opportunity for segmentation and innovation. Whether it’s launching new dual-brand models, introducing lifestyle brands to new markets, or offering residential-style accommodations, IHG is shaping the future of travel across the Americas.

IHG’s commitment to sustainable development and community engagement also plays a central role in its expansion efforts. New properties are designed with energy efficiency, local materials, and wellness in mind, ensuring a positive impact on both guests and host communities.

With nearly 400 hotels in operation or in development, IHG is well-positioned to continue delivering exceptional value and variety across its 19-brand portfolio. Travelers heading to the MLAC region can look forward to a new generation of hotels tailored to meet their diverse needs—from luxury leisure to efficient business travel and extended stays.
