IHG Signs Two Holiday Inn Hotels in Aswan, Egypt

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed agreements for two new Holiday Inn branded hotels in Aswan, Egypt, adding 400 rooms to its growing portfolio in the country. The deals, signed with Misr Holanda and Avenue for Development, mark Holiday Inn’s entry into one of Egypt’s best-known heritage and tourism destinations.

The projects include Holiday Inn Aswan, due to open in 2029, and Holiday Inn Resort New Aswan, scheduled for 2030. The developments expand IHG’s presence in Egypt, where the group already operates 10 hotels and has a further 23 in the pipeline.

Holiday Inn Aswan will offer 200 rooms near the city centre and close to major tourist attractions. The hotel is designed to serve both domestic and international travellers looking for access to Aswan’s historic and cultural sites.

The property will include:

  • 3 dining venues
  • 5 meeting and event spaces
  • Central location near key attractions

Holiday Inn Resort New Aswan will also feature 200 rooms and will be built in the city’s newly developed New Aswan district. IHG said the resort is aimed at travellers seeking a leisure-focused stay in an area known for natural scenery and cultural appeal.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Egypt remains a priority growth market for IHG in the region and one where we have deep-rooted history and a long-standing presence. We are proud to build on that legacy through the signing of Holiday Inn Aswan and Holiday Inn Resort New Aswan, expanding in one of the country’s most important tourism gateways.”

He added: “Aswan continues to attract both domestic and international travellers, and these signings allow us to meet the growing demand for high-quality branded accommodation with globally trusted brands. They also reflect our long-term commitment to Egypt and the strength of our partnerships with local owners as we continue to grow in this important market.”

Dr. Eng. Ibrahim Sadek, CEO, Misr Holanda for Tourism and Hotel Investment and Avenue for Development, said: “Our collaboration with IHG reflects our confidence in their strong brand portfolio and operational expertise. Holiday Inn Aswan and Holiday Inn Resort New Aswan are strategic additions for us as we continue to grow within the hospitality sector.”

He added: “As the area continues to develop, we see strong potential for a quality international hospitality offering that can serve the needs of both local and international visitors. With IHG’s global expertise and the strength of the Holiday Inn brand, we are confident the resort hotel will become an important addition to the destination’s hospitality landscape.”

Aswan is one of Egypt’s leading tourism hubs, known for Nile views, Nubian culture and major heritage attractions including the Temple of Philae. Its location and historical importance continue to draw visitors seeking river travel, archaeology and cultural experiences.

IHG currently operates hotels in Egypt under InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites brands.
