Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel Announces New Executive Chef


The Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel, located in the vibrant Art Deco District of South Beach and recently revitalized, is excited to announce Gastón Javier as its new Executive Chef.

Gastón, known for his extraordinary culinary talents and innovative approach to dining, will be at the helm of the hotel’s renowned restaurant, The Social Club, as well as the vibrant High Tide Beach Bar & Grill.

Mohan Koka, the General Manager of Kimpton Surfcomber, expressed his enthusiasm about Chef Gastón’s joining, highlighting his expertise, creativity, and dedication to culinary excellence as key reasons for his selection to lead the hotel’s culinary team and elevate the dining experience for guests.

A native of Key Biscayne, FL, Chef Gastón has a rich background in South Florida’s culinary scene, influenced by his Cuban and Spanish heritage. From a young age, Gastón was immersed in cooking, learning from his grandmothers. He holds dual degrees in Culinary Arts and Business Administration. Gastón began his career with the “Mango Squad,” a group instrumental in the Latin fusion culinary movement. His journey included stints overseas, apprenticing under Michelin-Star chefs Ferran Adrià in Spain and Gastón Acurio in Peru. His illustrious career includes roles as a private chef for celebrities, owning restaurants and catering businesses, and featuring on The Food Network’s Celebrity Dish.

Prior to joining Kimpton Surfcomber, Gastón’s experience in hospitality includes roles in various high-end hotels in South Florida. Notably, he worked at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs, earning two Hyatt Excellence Awards, and at the historic Deauville Beach Resort. Most recently, he was the Executive Chef at The Standard in Miami Beach’s Lido Bayside.

Chef Gastón is celebrated for his ability to blend bold flavors with unique textures, drawing on a diverse array of cultures, techniques, and ingredients. He is particularly renowned for his exceptional tasting menus and inspired pairings.
