American Airlines brings Citi into airport lounges across the US

American Airlines is expanding its long-standing partnership with Citi by introducing the bank’s branding across its Admirals Club lounge network in the United States, starting in April 2026.

The rollout begins at major hubs including Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Miami International Airport, with further locations planned throughout the year.

The move builds on a nearly 40-year relationship between the airline and Citi, the exclusive issuer of American’s AAdvantage co-branded credit cards in the US. The initiative aims to enhance the premium travel experience for frequent flyers while strengthening the integration of loyalty benefits across the travel journey.

Customers passing through participating airports will begin to see Citi branding at the entrance of Admirals Club lounges, marking a visible extension of the partnership into airport spaces. American Airlines says the expansion reflects growing demand for seamless loyalty experiences that combine travel perks with everyday spending benefits.

“Our customers choose Citi / AAdvantage cards because they deliver meaningful benefits — from earning Loyalty Points to help them reach status faster to enjoying a more premium journey,” said Scott Long, American’s Senior Vice President of AAdvantage.

“Welcoming the Citi brand to our Admirals Club lounges is a testament to the depth of our partnership as both American and Citi look for ways to enhance every aspect of the travel journey for our customers.”

Access to Admirals Club lounges remains available through several options. Travellers can enter with a paid membership, qualifying oneworld status or eligible credit cards such as the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard. Cardholders of Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard and Citi Strata Elite cards can also redeem one of four annual lounge passes, each valid for 24 hours. One-day access is available for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles.

“We’re proud to highlight the power of our partnership with American Airlines through Citi’s expanded presence across the Admirals Club network,” said John LaCosta, Citi’s Head of Partnership Cards and Development. “Together, we’re shaping the next generation of premium travel experiences for our cardmembers.”

Admirals Club lounges offer a range of facilities designed to support travellers before departure, including spa-style shower suites, full-service bars and dedicated areas for work and relaxation. The airline has also introduced additional upgrades in recent years, including new partnerships with Lavazza coffee and Champagne Bollinger, alongside regionally inspired, chef-led menus.

American Airlines has been expanding its lounge footprint across key airports, including Austin Bergstrom International Airport, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago O’Hare and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. These investments aim to accommodate growing passenger demand while improving the overall airport experience.

The AAdvantage programme continues to play a central role in the strategy, offering members access to nearly 50 lounges worldwide. Travellers can earn miles through flights, credit card spending and partner activity, with rewards redeemable for travel and upgrades, while Loyalty Points help members progress toward elite status.
