Fly from Rome to Mauritius Nonstop: ITA Airways’ New Route Takes Off

ITA Airways has launched its first nonstop route between Rome Fiumicino and Mauritius, marking a new addition to its intercontinental network for the Winter 2025–2026 season. The service, inaugurated on November 8 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, will operate twice weekly using the airline’s new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.

The new connection aims to strengthen tourism and trade links between Italy and Mauritius while expanding the airline’s long-haul offerings. The route will run on Mondays and Saturdays from Mauritius and on Fridays and Sundays from Rome, offering travelers a direct link between Europe and one of the Indian Ocean’s most sought-after destinations.

New Route Strengthens Tourism and Trade Links

The inaugural flight from Rome landed in Mauritius at 11:20 a.m. local time, where a ceremony was held to mark the occasion. The event brought together Mauritian government representatives, airport officials, and ITA Airways executives, including Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare. Also present were the country’s Minister of Tourism Christian Harold Richard Duval, Junior Minister of Tourism Sydney Pierre, and key figures from the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.

“The inaugural flight of ITA Airways to Mauritius marks not only the arrival of a new airline but also the strengthening of a long-standing and cherished friendship between Mauritius and Italy,” said Christian Harold Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism. “It also paves the way for new opportunities in several areas — trade, culture, and above all, tourism.”

According to Emiliana Limosani, “We are proud to be here today and launch the new nonstop flight from Rome to Mauritius. We are confident that this route will strengthen the ties between Italy and Mauritius, boost travel, and pave the way for future collaborations between our two countries.”

Premium Travel Experience and Winter Expansion

The Airbus A330-900neo deployed on the route features a three-class configuration with 30 Business Class seats that fully recline into flat beds, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 237 Economy Class seats, including 36 Comfort Economy. The cabin design emphasizes comfort and Italian style, with advanced lighting, in-flight entertainment, and full Wi-Fi connectivity. The overnight schedule also allows for more convenient travel times for families and leisure passengers.

The direct flights are expected to boost both leisure and cargo traffic. Mauritius is one of Africa’s most dynamic economies, supported by diversified sectors such as agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, and technology. The new air link will enhance logistics and open new possibilities for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

With Mauritius added to its network, ITA Airways now serves 53 destinations during the Winter 2025–2026 season, including 16 domestic, 21 international, and 16 intercontinental routes. Other highlights of the upcoming schedule include the resumption of flights to Malé in the Maldives, increased service to Bangkok, and expanded frequencies to Buenos Aires during the holiday period.

Since its establishment in October 2021, ITA Airways has positioned itself as a global ambassador of Italian excellence. The airline incorporates elements of “Made in Italy” across its service, from menus designed by Michelin-starred chefs and uniforms developed with the guidance of Brunello Cucinelli to cabin interiors created by designer Walter de Silva. The Rome–Mauritius route continues this vision, combining Italian design with international connectivity.

Operating twice weekly through the European winter, the new route provides direct access for Italian travelers seeking tropical holidays and supports Mauritius’s efforts to expand its tourism base in Europe. The service also reinforces Rome Fiumicino’s role as a strategic hub for ITA Airways, linking long-haul and regional routes under a unified premium travel experience.
