Grupo Abra and Aerolíneas Argentinas announce a new bilateral codeshare agreement on December 9, 2025, expanding connectivity between Colombia and Argentina and extending access across the wider region.
The deal integrates routes operated by Avianca and Aerolíneas Argentinas, allowing passengers to travel on a single ticket with unified check-in and streamlined transfers. It covers 9 cities in Colombia, 12 in Argentina, and broadens an existing interline arrangement to include 30 additional destinations in the Caribbean, Central, and South America.
The agreement builds on the codeshare Aerolíneas Argentinas has maintained with GOL since 2014, which now incorporates Avianca through Grupo Abra. Implementation remains subject to regulatory approvals, but both airlines signal that the partnership is designed to strengthen regional competition and improve travel options. The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2023 between Aerolíneas Argentinas and Grupo Abra.
Expanded links across Argentina, Colombia, and the region
Under the new arrangement, Avianca passengers will gain access to connections from Buenos Aires to 12 cities: Bahía Blanca, Bariloche, Comodoro Rivadavia, El Calafate, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, Neuquén, Rosario, Ushuaia, Iguazú, Salta, and Tucumán. Aerolíneas Argentinas will make 9 Colombian destinations available to passengers connecting from Bogotá: San Andrés, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena, Cúcuta, Medellín, Pereira, and Santa Marta. These additions complement an expanded interline agreement giving access to 18 destinations in Argentina and Brazil operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas and 12 in Central and South America operated by Avianca.
The airlines state that this joint offering enables travelers to combine domestic and international segments in a single itinerary, improving convenience for itineraries that historically required multiple bookings. The agreement aims to enhance passenger flows between the Southern Cone and northern South America, two markets that continue to grow amid increasing demand for regional air connectivity. The expansion also supports Grupo Abra’s broader strategy to strengthen its network through cooperation among its airline partners.
Airline leaders highlight regional impact
Fabián Lombardo, CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas, said, “This new step in our partnership with Avianca allows us to continue building a stronger regional network, offering our passengers better options and a more competitive service.” Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of Abra, said, “We are very pleased to sign this agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas, as it will strengthen connectivity for our Avianca customers in the Southern Cone, bring Argentina and Colombia closer together, and continue building our project to increase competition in the region so that customers have more and better options.”
The initiative serves as an expansion of the framework established in the 2023 memorandum between the two companies. Both carriers indicate that regulatory approvals are the remaining step before the new codeshare becomes operational. Once in place, the partnership will consolidate network synergies that reflect the airlines’ broader regional ambitions.
Aerolíneas Argentinas continues to operate a network of 37 domestic destinations and 22 international routes, with integrated service through the SkyTeam Alliance. Avianca, part of the Abra Group alongside GOL, maintains more than 150 routes and over 700 daily flights. Grupo Abra reports a combined fleet exceeding 300 aircraft and a presence in more than 25 countries throughout the Americas and Europe. The new bilateral codeshare positions the two carriers to leverage these assets in expanding regional travel options.
