ITA Airways Expands Premium Services with Lufthansa Group

ITA Airways is enhancing its customer offering through deeper alignment with Lufthansa Group Airlines, launching a set of new Premium Services that will take effect on July 1, 2025. The move represents another step forward in the harmonization process between the Italian carrier and its German partner, as they expand mutual travel benefits for their frequent flyers and improve service consistency across both networks.

Since March, ITA Airways has been working to align its service model with Lufthansa Group standards. This includes faster connections via coordinated transit points, access to over 130 lounges worldwide, and seamless booking across codeshare flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and others in the group. The July upgrade brings this harmonization to a new level, especially for members of the Volare and Miles & More loyalty programs.

New Premium Services for Volare and Miles & More Members

Starting July 1, passengers with elite status in either Volare or Miles & More will receive access to a range of premium services when flying with any airline in the Lufthansa Group or on ITA Airways flights. These new benefits include:

  • Priority Check-in
  • Priority Boarding
  • Fast Track Security Access
  • Additional Baggage Allowance
  • Complimentary Seat Selection
  • Dedicated Transit Desk Assistance

These upgrades will be available to Volare Club Executive and Club Premium members traveling on Lufthansa Group flights. At the same time, Miles & More Hon Circle and Senator members will enjoy the same benefits when flying with ITA Airways.

Expanding Benefits for Mid-Tier Members

Travelers with mid-tier status in either program are not left out. Volare Club Plus members flying on Lufthansa Group airlines will gain access to:

  • Priority Reservation Waitlist
  • Free Extra Checked Baggage
  • Priority Check-in
  • Priority Airport Waiting List

These same benefits will be extended to Miles & More Frequent Traveler (FTL) status holders on ITA Airways flights, enabling more seamless travel experiences for a broader group of loyal customers.

CEO Statement and Strategic Direction

Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, emphasized the importance of the update, calling it “a consistent step forward towards a smoother and more comfortable travel experience.” He also noted that the enhancements reflect the deepening collaboration with Lufthansa Group, aimed at “raising the standards of service” and “delivering an increasingly high level of connectivity, comfort, and quality.”

The Premium Services rollout complements several initiatives introduced since the start of ITA Airways’ partnership with Lufthansa. These include shared use of terminal infrastructure at major hubs, expanded codeshare routes—especially across Africa, Asia, and South America—and mutual points accumulation between Volare and Miles & More members.

A Fully Integrated Travel Ecosystem

The ongoing integration of ITA Airways within the Lufthansa Group marks a significant shift in Italy’s air travel landscape. As Lufthansa increases its ownership stake and strategic influence, travelers can expect more synchronized operations, broader route access, and unified customer experiences between the carriers.

For frequent flyers, the message is clear: loyalty will now be rewarded more consistently across the combined network, making both European and intercontinental journeys smoother and more rewarding. Whether boarding in Rome, Frankfurt, or São Paulo, passengers can anticipate a growing standardization of perks and privileges that transcend individual airline boundaries.

The July enhancements are part of a broader vision to create a unified travel ecosystem that merges Italian service flair with the efficiency and reach of one of Europe’s most established airline groups.
