ITA Airways unveiled its upgraded Hangar Lounge at Rome Fiumicino Airport on 1 December 2025, introducing expanded seating, redesigned facilities, and new wellness-focused amenities for passengers traveling through Terminal 1.
The renovation adds 135 square meters of space, 65 additional seats for a total of 205, and a reconfigured entrance designed to improve comfort and passenger flow during peak periods.
The announcement was made during “Travel with All Your Senses,” a multisensory event showcasing the lounge’s new features and enhancements. ITA Airways said the redesign supports its integration into the Lufthansa Group and strengthens its hospitality standards, with expanded relaxation areas, curated Italian partnerships, and upgraded services for premium travellers.
New Spaces and Enhanced Comfort
The Hangar Lounge refurbishment includes an enlarged reception area and a repositioned welcome desk that opens the entrance hall and improves circulation. Restrooms have been fully rebuilt and moved near the lounge entrance to increase convenience for passengers. The redesign is intended to accommodate higher traffic levels as ITA Airways aligns with Lufthansa Group carriers.
A key addition is the 90-square-meter Silent Room, equipped with 25 chaise longues for travellers seeking a quiet pre-flight environment. The space incorporates sound, scent, and lighting elements to promote calm and was introduced as a response to growing demand for wellness-oriented airport services. ITA Airways positions the new room as a place where the journey can begin before boarding.
The Exclusive Room for Executive customers also received upgrades, including a curated wine and sparkling wine cellar and an information screen displaying live departure updates. The premium restroom area now features an experiential shower, adding a new layer of comfort for frequent flyers.
Italian Partnerships and Multisensory Experiences
The renovated lounge reflects ITA Airways’ commitment to showcasing Italian excellence through collaborations with national brands. The airline introduced a new partnership with Aneri, a producer of Italian wines and amaro. Aneri’s Amaro Anerissimo is now served in Business Class on all intercontinental flights, while additional products, including Aneri n.3 Giorgia Prosecco Superiore Brut Millesimato DOCG, will be offered on international and domestic services starting in 2026. Lounge guests will also find Aneri Biologico N.7 Leone Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG in both the Hangar Lounge and the Piazza di Spagna lounge.
The unveiling event featured a series of sensory experiences created by Italian specialists. Reflexologist Flavia Bergognoni led the touch component, while parfumeur Paola Bottai designed an olfactory trail inspired by distant landscapes. Musician and artisan Luca Bertelli performed with a handpan for the hearing segment, and artist Riccardo Palazzi contributed visual art exploring light and motion. Taste was represented by Zen Time, a new Campari Academy cocktail served in a teapot and featuring jasmine, chamomile, and Bulldog Gin.
Joerg Eberhart, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of ITA Airways, said the renewal demonstrates the company’s broader investment in service quality and airport hospitality. “The renewal of the Hangar Lounge represents not only a significant structural investment, but also a tangible demonstration of ITA Airways’ ongoing commitment to excellence in the airport hospitality we offer our passengers,” said Joerg Eberhart. He added that the airline aims to create experiences that inspire and deepen its connection with customers.
The company said the redesigned lounge supports its strategy of offering an airport environment that balances comfort, innovation, and Italian identity. It also aligns with ITA Airways’ focus on digitization, customer personalization, and sustainability as the airline continues developing a modern, efficient fleet and expanding its premium service offerings.
