A man has been arrested after allegedly running through a security checkpoint at one of the world’s busiest airports without submitting to screening, then asking a judge at his bond hearing whether he could still reschedule his trip.
Oloruntoba Oreoluwa Temidayo, 30, was arrested on 11 May at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after he allegedly ran through the south security checkpoint without putting his bags through the scanners or passing through the screening equipment, according to Atlanta police.
Officers found him in Concourse T with his belongings and took him into custody. He faces charges of simple battery, obstructing an officer and interfering with security measures. His bond was set at $9,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 June.
The bond hearing
At his hearing, the judge read from the arrest warrant: “You breached security, and you fought with the officers when they attempted to arrest you.”
Temidayo denied the physical confrontation. “I didn’t shove any of the officers. I was just kind of —” he began, before the judge interrupted: “I understand. Today is not the trial.”
Temidayo told the court he had been trying to reach New York. He then asked whether he could still reschedule his airline booking given the charges he faced.
“So, I can still reschedule the airline?” he asked.
“As long as you go properly through the checkpoint,” the judge replied.
One witness at the airport told local television that the incident caused widespread disruption to other travellers.
Not the first breach at Hartsfield-Jackson
The incident is the latest in a series of security breaches at the Atlanta airport. In October 2025, a man named Fabian Leon attempted to run through the main security checkpoint at full speed and was stopped by a bystander who tackled him to the ground. A separate incident that same month involved an individual who authorities said had plotted a mass shooting at the airport.
Hartsfield-Jackson is consistently ranked among the highest-traffic airports in the world and serves as a major hub for international and domestic travel across the southeastern United States.
Channel 2 Action News said it has filed an open records request for surveillance footage of the 11 May incident. Temidayo remains in custody at Clayton County Jail.
