Orlando International Airport expects nearly 1.9 million passengers to travel through its terminals during the 12-day Thanksgiving travel period from November 21 to December 2.
Airport officials say flight operations have returned to normal and anticipate the busiest day to be November 30, when more than 177,400 travelers are projected to pass through MCO.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority says strong holiday demand and Orlando’s position as a major leisure destination continue to drive seasonal traffic. The airport has expanded customer service programs, parking options and passenger guidance to support the increase. “Orlando is usually one of the nation’s hottest travel destinations for the holiday season, and Orlando International Airport is ready,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
Airport Prepared for Peak Travel Days
MCO forecasts its second-busiest day to fall on November 29, when about 175,855 passengers are expected. Officials say the airport’s Customer Experience Ambassador program has been enhanced ahead of the surge, while food and retail concessions are fully staffed for holiday operations. Parking availability has also been expanded, with multiple options open throughout the travel window.
- North, South and West parking garages available
- Surface lots Atlantis, Discovery and Endeavour open near the Train Station
- MCO Reserve offered for scheduled checkpoint access when available
- MCO app recommended for live parking and TSA updates
Airport leaders say these measures aim to support smoother passenger flow during what is traditionally one of Orlando’s busiest travel periods. Lyttle said the airport has focused on customer experience, noting enhanced services intended “to make their airport experience as enjoyable as possible.”
Travel Guidance for Holiday Flyers
MCO is reminding travelers to follow the “3-2-1” rule to stay on schedule during peak crowds:
- Be at the ticket counter 3 hours before departure.
- Be at TSA checkpoints 2 hours before departure.
- Be at the gate 1 hour before boarding.
The airport also encourages visitors picking up arriving passengers to use the Travel Plaza or free cell phone lots rather than stopping on terminal roadways. Officials emphasize safe and legal parking, noting that roadside waiting is prohibited.
Passengers are advised to check flight status updates with their airlines before leaving for the airport and ensure carry-on bags do not contain prohibited items, including weapons. Additional reminders include packing lightly, allowing extra time during peak hours and confirming that personal identification meets Real ID requirements for a smoother TSA process.
With Orlando remaining one of the country’s most visited holiday destinations, airport officials say the combination of high demand, expanded services and proactive guidance will shape this year’s Thanksgiving travel experience at MCO. Passenger volumes are expected to remain strong throughout the entire 12-day period as airlines continue normal operations and travelers return for seasonal vacations and family visits.
