SalamAir has opened sales for a new twice-weekly direct service between Muscat and Kigali, with flights set to begin on 21 July 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
One-way Lite fares on the route start from OMR 69.99, making it one of the more affordable direct air links between the Gulf and East Africa.
The Omani low-cost carrier will operate the route on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The launch marks SalamAir’s latest expansion across the African continent as the airline continues to target high-growth and underserved markets.
Business and leisure demand drives route
SalamAir positioned the Kigali route as a response to growing demand in both business and leisure travel between Oman and East Africa. The airline said the service is expected to support increasing commercial exchange, trade opportunities, and stronger economic ties between the two markets.
Steven Allen, Chief Commercial Officer at SalamAir, said Kigali offered strong fundamentals across both travel segments. “Rwanda has seen consistent growth in tourism and business travel in recent years. Kigali itself is a vibrant, modern gateway — known for its culture, markets, and historical landmarks — and it opens the door to some of Africa’s most compelling nature and eco-tourism attractions,” he said.
“As part of our wider network strategy, we remain focused on linking Oman with high-growth markets through affordable, reliable, and direct connectivity,” Allen added.
Kigali’s rise as an African hub
Kigali has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most forward-looking capitals, recognised for its cleanliness, safety, and progressive urban planning. The city serves as a hub for high-level conferences, innovation, and investment, supported by facilities such as the Kigali Convention Centre.
Oman and Rwanda share diplomatic ties spanning nearly three decades, underpinned by a steadily evolving trade relationship. SalamAir said the new route aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 ambitions, reinforcing connectivity between the two nations to support tourism exchange and strategic partnerships.
Africa expansion continues
The addition of Kigali builds on SalamAir’s continued push into the African market. The airline said the route reflects its broader strategy of connecting Oman with destinations that offer strong commercial and tourism potential, while keeping fares accessible for a wide range of travellers.
