Holland America Line is planning a fleetwide celebration to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, with festive programming, live music, commemorative keepsakes and special menus on every cruise over the July 4, 2026, holiday.
The cruise line announced the plans on June 1, 2026, from its Seattle headquarters. Guests sailing on select ships over Independence Day will receive a commemorative America’s 250th anniversary keepsake pin, whether they are cruising in Alaska or Canada and New England.
The centrepiece of the celebration is the “America’s 250th Celebration: Stars & Stripes” cruise aboard Zuiderdam. Guests on that sailing will receive a bandana created exclusively for the occasion.
“We’re excited to bring the spirit of America’s 250th anniversary to life across our fleet with experiences that feel both celebratory and uniquely Holland America Line,” said Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line.
“From live entertainment and themed events to American-inspired dining and our special ‘Stars & Stripes’ cruise, these experiences are designed to capture the energy and pride that make this milestone so meaningful. We have worked with intention to create moments that feel fun, memorable and connective.”
Entertainment and activities for July 4
On Independence Day, guests on ships in North America will gather for a festive party featuring live music that travels through a genre-spanning “Soundtrack of America” journey. On Zuiderdam, a special “Great American Songbook” concert will celebrate iconic American music.
Throughout the celebration, guests can take part in interactive lawn games, Fourth of July-themed trivia, scavenger hunts and live cooking demonstrations inspired by classic American flavours and traditions.
An all-American culinary menu
The July 4 menus draw on flavours associated with Independence Day, from backyard barbecue favourites to nostalgic summer desserts. Patriotic breakfast offerings in the Dining Room and Lido Market include Berry Spangled Brioche, Yankee Doodle Waffle and a Stars and Stripes Parfait.
For dinner, Lido Market will feature an all-American barbecue with dry-rubbed beef, smoked pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, broiled salmon and chicken gumbo soup, alongside classic sides. Desserts will include American Flag Cake, blueberry pie, New York cheesecake and Boston cream pie.
Independence Day beverage specials available across the fleet include the Firework, made with pineapple vodka, lemon, lime and raspberries, and America the Blue-tiful, made with rum, blue curaçao and pineapple juice.
The Stars and Stripes cruise
Departing from Boston, Massachusetts, on July 4, 2026, the Zuiderdam “Stars & Stripes” cruise will feature a late-night sailaway, allowing guests to watch the city’s historic fireworks display from sea. The itinerary includes visits to historically significant cities such as Norfolk, Virginia, and an overnight stay in New York City.
The celebration continues on board with a patriotic deck party featuring live music and passed hors d’oeuvres, including mini hot dogs, Southern crab cakes, cheeseburger sliders and red, white and blue berry tartlets.
Collaborations with American brands
Holland America is also marking the anniversary through partnerships with American brands. In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon is being aged at sea across the cruise line’s fleet, marking the distillery’s first venture with a cruise line for its Ocean Aged at Sea Bourbon series.
A collection of handcrafted cards developed with Crane Stationery, designed by artists from the United States Veterans’ Artists Alliance, will be sold on board this summer and on Crane.com. The line also worked with Pendleton Woolen Mills on a limited-edition, Alaska-themed throw blanket available aboard Alaska cruises in 2026.
Looking ahead, Holland America Line will launch a 28-day Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage in 2027, visiting 18 ports along the historic Pan Am Great Circle Route to celebrate the golden age of global travel.
