Four Seasons’ first luxury yacht passes key sea trials ahead of debut season

Four Seasons Yachts has confirmed the successful completion of sea trials for Four Seasons I, marking a major milestone in the development of the brand’s first ultra-luxury yacht.

The trials took place over five days at sea off the shipyard in Ancona, Italy, and included more than 60 technical and operational evaluations designed to assess the vessel’s performance, safety and comfort. The results bring Four Seasons I closer to its inaugural season, with further testing planned before launch.

The company said the trials validated the yacht’s technical integrity, operational stability and seaworthiness, following a programme that culminated in a six-hour endurance run at full power. Four Seasons I is the first vessel in the company’s move into luxury yachting, extending the Four Seasons hospitality brand from land-based resorts and hotels to the maritime sector. A second sea trial is scheduled later this month as preparations continue for welcoming the first guests.

Extensive testing confirms performance and comfort

During the initial sea trials, Four Seasons I underwent a comprehensive series of tests covering propulsion, navigation, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as safety, environmental performance and onboard comfort systems. The programme included assessments of vibration and noise levels, climate control and other guest-facing elements across suites and public areas.

The company said these evaluations were designed to ensure that the level of refinement associated with the Four Seasons brand is maintained throughout the yacht. Comfort testing focused on areas that directly affect the guest experience, with particular attention given to the performance of systems under full operational conditions.

The trials concluded with a six-hour endurance run at full power, intended to simulate sustained operational demands at sea. According to Four Seasons Yachts, the results confirmed that the vessel meets the performance and reliability standards expected in the ultra-luxury segment.

“The results of these trials speak to the level of craftsmanship and technical rigour behind Four Seasons I,” said Ben Trodd, CEO, Four Seasons Yachts. “Seeing the yacht perform as intended gives us real confidence as we move into the final stages ahead of welcoming our first guests.”

Next steps toward inaugural season

The successful completion of the first sea trials represents a key phase in the development timeline of Four Seasons I. The company said a second round of sea trials is planned later this month, forming part of the final preparations ahead of launch and entry into service.

Four Seasons Yachts has positioned Four Seasons I as a purpose-built vessel designed to deliver an ultra-luxury experience at sea, rather than adapting an existing cruise or yacht platform. The project reflects growing interest among luxury hospitality brands in expanding into maritime travel, as high-end travellers seek more private and bespoke experiences.

Once launched, Four Seasons I will form the foundation of the brand’s yachting business, with the inaugural season expected to introduce guests to a product that blends hotel-style service with the intimacy of yachting. Further details on itineraries and guest operations are expected to follow closer to launch.

The company said the completion of the sea trials demonstrates progress toward that goal, confirming that Four Seasons I is on track as it moves through the final stages of testing and commissioning.
