The Cairns Convention Centre, following its recent $176 million expansion funded by the Queensland Government, is set to offer virtual reality (VR) flythrough tours of its revamped facilities at the IMEX Las Vegas event from 17-19 October.
The Centre’s presence at stand E1204 promises attendees a unique, immersive experience of the state-of-the-art venue.
Located in the picturesque tropical North Queensland, the Cairns Convention Centre has always been a beacon for international and domestic conferences and events. With its recent refurbishment, the Centre has further solidified its position as a premier event destination, harmoniously blending the region’s natural beauty and eco-tourism charm.
The expansion, a collaborative effort between ASM Global (Asia Pacific) and Cox Architecture, has added a whopping 10,500 sqm of versatile space. This includes a vast exhibition area, a 450-seat lecture hall, three multi-purpose meeting rooms, a banquet space accommodating 500 guests, an outdoor terrace, and a spacious lobby designed for pre-event gatherings. The Trinity Room and Terrace level, which offers panoramic views of the Trinity Inlet, stands out as a signature feature of the expansion.
Janet Hamilton, General Manager of Cairns Convention Centre, emphasized the importance of the virtual tours, especially in times when in-person visits might be challenging. “While we aim to introduce our Centre to clients face-to-face, it’s not always feasible. These interactive virtual tours, accessible via headsets or our website, offer a comprehensive view of our facility. At IMEX Las Vegas, event professionals can virtually navigate our modern design, advanced event systems, and the integration of Cairns’ lush tropical rainforest into our spaces,” said Hamilton, who will personally guide organizers through the virtual tour at the Las Vegas event.
Feedback on the new spaces has been overwhelmingly positive. Clients have expressed admiration for the modern design, abundant natural light, and the backdrop of the tropical rainforest. Hamilton added, “We are situated in one of the globe’s most stunning locales, and we’ve meticulously integrated this natural splendor into our venue.”
The creation of these virtual tours was made possible through the support of Tourism Australia and its Business Events Advance Program, which collaborates with the industry to boost the value and volume of international business events in Australia.
Hamilton expressed gratitude for Tourism Australia’s support and shared her enthusiasm for future collaborations. “We’re eager to spotlight Australian business event opportunities and attract more events and delegates to Cairns.”
