Best Universities in Turkey

The number of international students choosing to study in Turkey has more than doubled since 2006, signaling the country’s growing importance as a higher education destination. In the 2015-16 academic year, there were around 48,000 foreign students in Turkey. Do you wonder how Turkey’s universities are ranked in the World University Rankings.

The thirteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, compiled by global higher education think tank QS Quacquarelli Symonds, announced world’s best universities. Turkey’s Bilkent University drops out of the top 400. Bilkent University drops 26 places, and it now ranks 420th. This year’s results indicate that Turkey’s universities are falling. They are performing well for graduate employability. However, they are struggling to produce high-impact research.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked as the world’s best university for a fifth consecutive year.

Other key results for Turkey include:

• Nine Turkish universities are ranked, two more than in last year’s edition due to the expansion of the ranking which now includes 916 institutions; These are Gazi Üniversitesi and Cukurova University. Both rank in the 701+ category;
• Koç University is Turkey’s only university to rise this year. It jumps from 481-490th to 451-460th;
• All but one of Turkey’s institutions receives a lower global rank for research this year. This is measured using QS’s citations per faculty;
• The only Turkish university to improve its research performance is Sabanci University;
• However, eight Turkish universities improve their rank for employer reputation;
