Turkish Airlines builds world’s tallest sand castle in Florida

Turkish Airlines tries to break the world record for the tallest sand castle ever built. A team of 12 sculptors – led by seven-time record holder Ted Siebert – are constructing the impressive castle, which requires more than 1,800 tons of sand at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Florida, USA. The record attempt marks the airline’s inaugural service from Miami to its hub in Istanbul, which begins Sunday.

The sandcastle features several of Istanbul’s landmarks as well as famous buildings from places that Turkish Airlines already flies to, including New York’s Statue of Liberty and Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.

It is expected to remain standing at the beach for at least three weeks after it is completed according to WPLG.

The current world record for tallest sand castle is 41 feet and 3.67 inches and was built in the Brazilian city of Niteroi, across the Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro last year.
