Türkiye sees surge in British tourists as summer bookings gain pace

Türkiye is reporting a sharp rise in British visitors, with 16% more UK holidaymakers travelling to the country in March 2026 compared with the same period last year. In the final week of the month alone, from 24 to 30 March, UK visitor numbers increased by 64% year on year, according to the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA).

The growth comes as bookings accelerate ahead of the summer season, with major destinations including İstanbul, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and İzmir continuing to operate normally. Authorities say these destinations remain far from regional conflict zones and are seeing strong customer feedback and steady demand from British travellers.

TGA says the country’s Mediterranean and Aegean destinations are maintaining momentum thanks to competitive pricing and a wide range of holiday options. Officials add that the sector is preparing for a busy summer, supported by continued demand from the UK and other European markets.

“British travellers have made their verdict clear. Our border entries from the UK, and other European markets are showing double-digit growth year-on-year over the past few weeks. British holidaymakers clearly know that Türkiye’s holiday destinations are open, welcoming, and as spectacular as ever,” said Sinan Seha Türkseven, General Manager of TGA.

Industry data from major UK tour operators and airline partners reflects a similar trend, pointing to strong booking growth and rising demand for last-minute travel.

“As the UK’s largest tour operator to Türkiye, we have a very exciting programme on sale and we are looking forward to a busy summer taking customers on their well-deserved holidays to this fantastic destination. Customers travelling to Türkiye have been telling us how fantastic their holidays have been, and with such great value on offer, now is an excellent time to book that perfect holiday,” said Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.

Online travel agents also report a sharp increase in bookings in recent weeks, particularly around the Easter period.

“Holiday bookings to Türkiye are seeing a strong resurgence among British travellers. In the past week alone, we’ve recorded a 160% increase in last-minute bookings for the Easter period. With excellent value for money and a wide range of standout destinations on offer, Türkiye is continuing to establish itself as one of the most popular choices for UK holidaymakers. This upward trend looks likely to continue throughout the year,” said Zoe Harris, Chief Customer Officer at On the Beach.

Airlines are also seeing sustained demand for flights to the country’s key leisure destinations.

“Türkiye continues to be an attractive option for UK holidaymakers, particularly for those looking to maximise value without compromising on quality. We’re seeing customers make considered choices, and Türkiye consistently stands out for its combination of incredible hospitality, diverse experiences and competitive pricing, which is supported by a variety of SunExpress flight options to suit passengers’ needs,” said Helmut Wölfel, Commercial Director at SunExpress.

Antalya remains one of the country’s leading tourism hubs, attracting millions of British visitors each year with its resort infrastructure, warm climate and direct flight connections from across the UK. Destinations along the Aegean coast, including Bodrum, Dalaman and İzmir, continue to draw travellers with their mix of beaches, heritage sites and nightlife, while İstanbul offers a year-round city break appeal.

Tourism activity across these destinations is continuing as normal, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office travel advice for Türkiye remains unchanged.
