New Zealand's Qualmark recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council

New Zealand’s Qualmark Aligns with Global Sustainability Standards

Qualmark, a subsidiary of Tourism New Zealand, has recently been recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) for its Sustainable Tourism Business Criteria.

This recognition aligns Qualmark with global standards, emphasizing its commitment to a sustainable future for New Zealand’s tourism sector.

In May, Qualmark updated its criteria for members, ensuring alignment with the GSTC Criteria. This move is in line with the tourism sector’s goal of transitioning to a regenerative system, aiming to benefit both New Zealand and its residents.

Steven Dixon, Qualmark General Manager, expressed his pride in the new global status, stating, “This recognition not only boosts the reputation of our accredited businesses but also supports New Zealand’s shift towards regenerative tourism.”

Clinton Farley, The Hotel Britomart General Manager, emphasized the role each tourism business plays in sustainability. He believes the GSTC’s validation will empower the industry to pioneer a brighter future.

Vanessa McKay, General Manager of Qualmark Gold member Carino Wildlife Cruises, shared her enthusiasm about the recognition. She said, “Our gold Qualmark award now symbolizes our alignment with global sustainability standards. We’re honored to have Qualmark guide us towards a greener future for New Zealand.”

Randy Durband, GSTC Chief Executive Officer, praised Qualmark for its dedication to a global strategy, highlighting its alignment with the Four Pillars of the GSTC Criteria.

The GSTC, initiated by the United Nations in 2007, sets and manages global standards for sustainable travel and tourism. With this recognition, Qualmark members can be assured of their alignment with universal sustainability criteria. Furthermore, Qualmark Accommodation providers might be eligible for GSTC’s Market Access program, allowing them to be highlighted by prominent online travel agencies.
