Too Good To Go Platform Arrives in 11 Abu Dhabi Locations

The Too Good To Go platform has officially launched across 11 Lagardère Travel Retail outlets in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant step in the fight against food waste in the Middle East. This move follows a successful pilot in Qatar and brings smart food surplus management tools to one of the region’s key travel hubs.

Expansion of the FLOW Anti-Waste Programme

The integration of Too Good To Go in Abu Dhabi is part of Lagardère Travel Retail’s broader FLOW (Fighting Loss of Our World) programme, a strategy designed to curb food waste while driving operational efficiency and consumer awareness. The FLOW initiative encompasses a suite of digital tools that promote real-time management of surplus products, including:

  • Too Good To Go platform – Allows customers to buy unsold food items at reduced prices via the Too Good To Go mobile app
  • Expiry Date Management+ – Digital tracking system to automate expiry monitoring and optimize inventory
  • AI-Powered Discounting – Predictive pricing technology that automatically adjusts prices based on expiry proximity and demand

Lagardère Travel Retail, one of the world’s leading travel retailers, has implemented these solutions in a wide range of outlets, from travel essentials stores to specialty food units. The Abu Dhabi launch represents the next major milestone after the initial rollout in Qatar, which diverted over 322,000 meals from becoming waste in 2023 alone.

Environmental Impact and Innovation

With this latest expansion, Lagardère Travel Retail reinforces its commitment to responsible retailing. The Too Good To Go platform not only offers a way to save edible food but also introduces a scalable, tech-enabled model for airport concessions and retail environments. Through automation and AI, staff are empowered to make smarter, faster decisions about surplus food, leading to reduced waste and improved sustainability metrics.

In 2023, Lagardère Travel Retail prevented the waste of more than 322,000 food items through digital surplus management and consumer-facing resale platforms. This model is now seen as a benchmark in the travel retail sector, demonstrating how digital tools can turn potential loss into positive environmental impact and business value.

Lagardère Travel Retail plans to continue scaling the FLOW programme in additional countries and across more points of sale in the coming year. The collaboration with Too Good To Go, along with other smart tools like Expiry Date Management+ and AI discounting, positions the company at the forefront of sustainable travel retail innovation.

This initiative also aligns with the UAE’s broader sustainability goals as it prepares to host global sustainability-focused events and accelerate its efforts under the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy. As travelers become more environmentally conscious, programs like FLOW not only reduce waste but also respond to evolving consumer expectations for ethical and sustainable shopping experiences.
