China Visitors Summit Brings $1 Billion Travel Business Potential to Abu Dhabi

The China Visitors Summit (CVS), the world’s largest gathering of Chinese travel industry professionals held outside of China, concluded in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, on 28–29 August 2025.

The event brought nearly 160 leading Chinese travel buyers to meet with UAE tourism suppliers, creating an estimated $1 billion in potential global travel business.

The two-day summit at the Rotana Hotel and Conference Center in Al Ain featured more than 3,000 one-to-one business appointments. Participating buyers represented travel agencies, tour operators, luxury agencies, wholesalers, MICE managers, and corporate travel planners. Together, these companies accounted for 1.5 million international travelers last year, many targeting destinations in the GCC and particularly the UAE.

Expanding Chinese Tourism Market

China is now the largest source of international tourism, with 200 million passport holders and nearly the same number of outbound trips annually. Chinese travelers spent more than $300 billion worldwide in the past year, underscoring the country’s importance as a key source market for global tourism destinations.

The CVS provided UAE travel companies an opportunity to select the Chinese buyers they wanted to meet, tailoring schedules to segments such as luxury leisure travel, corporate travel, and MICE. This targeted approach aimed to strengthen business ties and improve the UAE’s positioning as a preferred destination for Chinese travelers.

Strategic Significance for the UAE

Organizers said the summit represents more than business appointments. “The China Visitors Summit is not just about meetings – it’s about building long-term partnerships between the UAE and China’s most powerful travel industry leaders,” said Alexander Glos, CEO of the China i2i Group, which organized the event.

He added that Abu Dhabi and the UAE are “firmly positioned as must-visit destinations for Chinese travelers,” noting that the CVS offers direct access, market insights, and opportunities essential for tourism suppliers seeking success in this segment.

Impact on UAE Tourism

The summit highlights the growing role of Chinese tourism in the UAE’s travel sector. With China’s outbound market continuing to expand, industry analysts view events such as CVS as critical for strengthening partnerships, increasing visitor arrivals, and enhancing the UAE’s share of global tourism flows.

The participation of both destinations and attractions across the UAE reflects broader efforts to integrate Chinese travel demand into the country’s tourism development strategy. Officials and industry stakeholders expect the connections built during the summit to support long-term growth in trade, tourism, and investment between the two markets.
