Golf’s Best Gather in Madeira for 2024 World Golf Awards

Madeira is gearing up to host the prestigious 11th annual World Golf Awards from 21-22 November 2024, marking the event’s debut on the island.

This event will gather the crème de la crème of the golfing world, alongside VIPs and key players from the golf tourism sector, in a celebration of excellence within the sport.

The highlight of this event will be an exclusive ceremony at the Savoy Palace in Funchal, encapsulating a premium golf itinerary that includes rounds at the esteemed Santo da Serra and Palheiro courses. This gathering aims to unite leaders in golf tourism from various continents, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America, and Oceania, underlining the global appeal and significance of the awards.

Chris Frost, the Managing Director of the World Golf Awards, expressed his pride in bringing the ceremony to Madeira, an island renowned for its tropical climate, rich culture, and diverse flora and fauna. He emphasized that Madeira, with its ideal golfing conditions, is poised to host an unforgettable celebration of the sport.

Known as “the islands of eternal spring,” Madeira offers a unique golfing experience thanks to its sub-tropical climate and vibrant ecosystem, akin to Morocco’s. The short distance from most European cities to Madeira adds to the island’s allure as a top golf destination.

Eduardo Jesus, the Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture and President of the Madeira Promotion Bureau, highlighted the significance of hosting the World Golf Awards. He sees it as an opportunity to promote Madeira as a prime golfing location, aligning with the bureau’s efforts to enhance and market the island’s golf offerings.

The Savoy Palace, where the awards ceremony will be held, showcases the epitome of modern island hospitality with its stylish design and luxurious accommodations, offering stunning views of the ocean. This venue promises to be an exceptional setting for celebrating golfing excellence.

The Santo da Serra, designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, offers a 27-hole course set against one of the most picturesque landscapes imaginable, providing a serene escape for golf enthusiasts. Similarly, the Palheiro Golf Course, with its 18 holes, is celebrated for its beauty and challenging play, set amid maritime pines and lush vegetation, offering spectacular views of Madeira’s terrain and the Atlantic Ocean.
