UEFA: Warsaw to Host 2024 Super Cup

In a recent meeting in Limassol, Cyprus, the UEFA Executive Committee announced a series of decisions impacting various facets of European football.

The National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, has been chosen to host the 2024 UEFA Super Cup, scheduled for 14 August, marking a significant event for the country’s footballing landscape.

Youth Tournament Hosts

Additionally, the committee has appointed several countries to host future youth final tournaments:

  • UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship: Northern Ireland 2026; Finland 2027.
  • UEFA European Under-17 Championship: Albania 2025; Estonia 2026; Latvia 2027.
  • UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship: Bosnia-Herzegovina 2026; Hungary 2027.
  • UEFA European Under-19 Championship: Wales 2026; Israel 2027.

Enhanced Governance Framework

A revised governance framework for National Associations has also been adopted, intending to elevate governance standards within UEFA’s 55 member entities. This framework emphasizes democracy, transparency, integrity, control mechanisms, policies, and procedures, aligning with UEFA’s strategy “Together for the Future of Football 2019-2024” and is designed to foster a more transparent and inclusive environment for domestic football across Europe.

Russian Youth Re-Admission

UEFA has also decided to readmit Russian minor teams to its competitions, stating that children should not be punished for the actions of adults. However, this readmission comes with stipulations: matches will not feature Russian symbols or be held in Russia.

Other Announcements

Other notable announcements included the relocation of the 48th Ordinary UEFA Congress to Paris from Madrid on 8 February 2024, the appointment of Armand Duka of Albania as UEFA vice-president, and an €11 million funding extension until 2028 for the Football in Schools event, underscoring UEFA’s commitment to fostering grassroots football.
