Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) has launched a series of new travel features on its QIC App, allowing customers to book hotels, convert loyalty points into Qatar Airways Avios, and receive a complimentary eSIM when purchasing visitors’ health insurance.
The enhancements, announced on 15 June 2026, are designed to position the QIC App as an all-in-one digital travel platform for both residents of and visitors to Qatar. The update expands the app well beyond its original insurance focus into a broader suite of everyday travel services.
Among the most significant new additions is the ability for QIC customers to convert their loyalty Coins into Avios, the rewards currency of Qatar Airways Privilege Club. The converted points can be used for flight bookings, cabin class upgrades, and purchases at Qatar Duty Free, with access to more than 150 destinations served by Qatar Airways and its partner airlines.
Customers can also use their Coins to partially offset the cost of outbound travel insurance premiums. By combining Coins with other electronic payment methods available within the app, travellers gain greater flexibility when securing coverage before heading abroad.
A new Hotels feature has been added to the app in partnership with leading hospitality providers, offering a range of accommodation options and rates intended to suit different budgets. QIC says the feature eliminates the need to switch between multiple platforms by bringing competitive hotel deals into the same interface as insurance and loyalty services.
The app also now includes a Calendar feature, giving visitors and residents a single gateway to browse events taking place across Qatar throughout the year. The tool is designed to help travellers plan their time in Doha by surfacing relevant events during their stay and allowing selections to be made within the same interface.
For international visitors, QIC has partnered with telecoms provider Ooredoo to offer complimentary eSIMs to all travellers who purchase Mandatory Visitors’ Health Insurance through its digital platforms. After completing their purchase, customers receive an activation link enabling them to download and configure their eSIM before arriving in Qatar, ensuring connectivity from the moment they land.
“One of the main characteristics of our digital strategy over the past few years has been evolving from focusing exclusively on core insurance products to expanding into non-insurance digital services for everyday life,” said Salem Al Mannai, Group CEO of QIC. “The enhancements that we are announcing today reflect this vision and our ongoing efforts to offer travelers a comprehensive set of services that help them travel better with our all-in-one digital ecosystem.”
Al Mannai added that QIC intends to continue developing its platform with new offerings designed to give customers greater control and a more efficient digital experience at both local and regional levels.
QIC offers a range of insurance packages covering global destinations, including its Worldwide Travel package, which covers medical emergencies, flight delays, and baggage and passport loss, including travel to the United States and Canada. For Schengen-bound travellers, its Fly Europe package provides medical coverage of up to USD 50,000, meeting standard visa requirements. Visitors to Qatar can obtain mandatory health insurance through the platform in under two minutes, with premiums starting from QAR 50.
Qatar Insurance Company is the leading insurer in Qatar and across the MENA region. The QIC App is available to download at app.qic.online.
