As expected earlier, the European Commission has confirmed that the cost of a Schengen visa will increase this June. The price hike is attributed to inflation in member states.
The new fees represent a 12 percent increase. For adults, the basic fee for a Schengen visa will rise from €80 to €90. For children, the fee will increase from €40 to €45.
Despite the rise, the Commission notes that fees remain “relatively low” compared to other countries. In the UK, visa fees start at €134, while in the US and Australia, they begin at approximately €185 and €117, respectively.
This increase aims to address the inflationary pressures experienced across Europe. The European Commission believes this adjustment will help maintain the efficiency and quality of the visa application process.
Travelers planning to visit Schengen countries are advised to prepare for the new fees starting in June. The Commission assures that the fee adjustment is a necessary step to keep up with economic changes.
Who Needs to Apply for A Schengen Visa?
Schengen visas are required for citizens from non-EU countries that do not benefit from the EU and Schengen area’s 90-day visa-free rule.
These include nationals of Turkey, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and China.
