Turkish Airlines (THY) is set to embark on a new chapter in its global expansion by introducing flights to Australia, making it the sixth continent in its expansive flight network.
The airline, already reaching 129 countries and 345 destinations across five continents, is preparing to connect its passengers to Australia, strengthening its position as a leading global carrier.
THY’s flight network growth is a cornerstone of its strategic expansion. The airline’s recent announcement to include Australia in its route network underscores its commitment to this strategy. THY’s Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, expressed his delight about launching flights to Melbourne, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s history.
For some time, THY has been meticulously preparing the groundwork for reaching the Australian continent. The finalization of the flight date to Melbourne is a realization of these long-term efforts. Prof. Dr. Bolat emphasized THY’s unique global value that sets it apart from competitors: being the airline that flies to the most countries worldwide. The Melbourne flights, scheduled to commence on March 15, will be operated thrice weekly with a stopover in Singapore. This new route, supported by Victoria State and Melbourne Airport, will position Turkish Airlines as the only European airline offering flights to Melbourne Airport via Singapore. These flights will contribute significantly to the tourism and trade volumes between the two countries.
To celebrate the launch, Turkish Airlines is offering special promotional fares. With tickets available from January 19 to April 15, travel from Istanbul to Melbourne starts at 1199 USD, and from Melbourne to Istanbul at 1499 AUD for the period of March 15 to May 15.
The new route is expected to enhance Melbourne’s access to European, Middle Eastern, Balkan, and African markets through Istanbul. This connectivity will significantly boost tourism, international education, business, and trade potential. THY plans to acquire new aircraft within the next few years, allowing for direct, non-stop flights from Istanbul to Melbourne and potentially other cities in Australia.
