Buenos Aires gets ready for Gastronomic Celebration, to Host Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019

There could be no better reason for foodies to visit Buenos Aires this October. For the first time in Argentina, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will arrive in the Argentine capital to celebrate the prolific achievements and diversity of Latin American cuisine.

The seventh annual Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will take place on Thursday, October 10 at at the historical cultural center Usina del Arte in the iconic La Boca neighborhood.

“This event provides a great opportunity for tourism in the city since travelers often choose a destination because of its cuisine, and 50 Best brings major talent from the culinary world to its host location,” says Gonzalo Robredo, president of the Tourism Board of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. “International chefs will find that Buenos Aires combines the best of our own cuisine and of Latin American food due to the variety of Latin American immigration in our city, which has enhanced its flavor over the last decade.”

The gastronomic celebration is made possible with the support of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and is sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. During the main event and in the days surrounding, chefs, restaurateurs, journalists and gastronomes from around the world will arrive in the Argentine capital to celebrate the prolific achievements and diversity of Latin American cuisine. Hallmark events include a welcome dinner, the #50BestTalks thought-leadership discussion presented by Miele at Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires in Recoleta, the annual Chefs’ Feast and the gala awards ceremony.

While Buenos Aires’s cuisine has been drawing worldwide attention thanks to traditional parrillas (barbecue grill restaurants), porteño pizza and pasta, the city’s emerging culinary scene has undergone an evolution in recent years now boasting a cosmopolitan mix of traditional homegrown fare with international flavors influenced by Asia, the middle east and the rest of Latin America. 

The city has previously been recognized by Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, with various restaurants having been featured in the past. In 2018, Buenos Aires was the top destination placing 10 restaurants on the list: Narda Comedor, which celebrates simple concepts, fresh food and intense flavor combinations; Proper by Chef Leo Lanussol and pastry chef Augusto Mayer offering roasted vegetables as the main attraction in small plate dining; Aramburu, the brainchild of chef Gonzalo Aramburu, with a 12-point tasting menu that is a feast for the taste buds and senses; Gran Dabbang, that combines Asian street cuisine with Latin American ingredients; and Elena,  host  for the #50BestTalks, offering high-end takes on Argentine comfort food with an Italian twist.
