Unveiling 21 Carpenter: A Historic Icon Reimagined as a Boutique Hotel

In the heart of Singapore, where the rich history of Chinatown seamlessly merges with the lively pulse of Clarke Quay, stands the iconic 21 Carpenter.

Constructed in 1936 by the esteemed local philanthropist, Mr Lee Wee Nam, and his brothers, this building once housed the Chye Hua Seng Wee Kee – a renowned Remittance House of its time. Today, this architectural gem has been meticulously transformed by the award-winning WOHA architects into a luxurious boutique hotel and restaurant.

21 Carpenter is not just a hotel; it’s an experience. From the contemporary flair of its neo-bistro and bar to the tranquil ambiance of its forty-eight meticulously designed guest rooms, every corner of this establishment promises a touch of elegance. Guests can unwind at the serene garden terrace or indulge in the panoramic views of the city and Marina Bay from the rooftop infinity pool & lounge.

Adding to its prestige, 21 Carpenter is proud to be a member of Design Hotels and is affiliated with the globally recognized Marriott Bonvoy.

The hotel is thoughtfully divided into two wings: The Heritage Wing and The Urban Wing. The Heritage Wing, situated in the conserved building, houses 26 rooms that echo the rich history of the establishment. In contrast, The Urban Wing, a modern five-story extension, offers an additional 22 rooms. With room sizes ranging from a spacious 30 to a lavish 56 square metres, guests are assured of a comfortable and luxurious stay.

But the allure of 21 Carpenter doesn’t end with its rooms. The hotel is set to feature an independent neo-bistro and bar, with the acclaimed Michelin-starred chef Andrew Walsh leading as the Culinary Director. Positioned at the strategic intersection of Carpenter Street and New Bridge Road, this street-level venue is destined to be a gastronomic haven for the discerning diner. With a design that encourages patrons to relax and savor their time, the bistro will offer a modern twist on classic dishes, served generously. Food enthusiasts can look forward to this culinary delight, set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2024.

As December 2023 approaches, both locals and tourists eagerly await the grand unveiling of 21 Carpenter. This boutique hotel, with its blend of heritage and modern luxury, is poised to redefine hospitality in Singapore.
