IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in the hospitality industry, announced a significant expansion in the UK and Ireland, adding more than 1,000 new rooms across nine properties in 2024.
These new signings, spread across IHG’s diverse brand portfolio, mark a continued phase of rapid growth in all market segments for the company.
Spanning IHG’s Hotel Indigo, voco hotels, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Staybridge Suites brands, these additions significantly enhance the company’s already impressive footprint in the region. With over 350 open hotels in the UK and Ireland, IHG’s expansion covers all four market segments: Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials, and Suites. This broadens the choices for both domestic and international travelers, whether they are visiting for business or leisure.
One of the highlights of this expansion is the introduction of the first voco hotel in Belfast, Northern Ireland, set to open later this year. This property is part of the growth of IHG’s fastest-growing premium brand, with several new hotels scheduled to open through 2024 and 2025. The new Hotel Indigo in Gloucester and additional Holiday Inn properties in Wrexham, Reading, and Bournemouth further strengthen IHG’s presence in key locations.
Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, comments on the growth: “Adding over 1,000 rooms through nine new signings reflects our strong commitment to the UK&I market and the confidence our partners place in IHG. This expansion is driven by the sustained demand from both domestic and international travelers who appreciate the unique experiences offered by IHG’s diverse brand family.”
The new properties span various locations, offering unique experiences to guests. The Hotel Indigo Gloucester – The Forum, for instance, is set in a city center development and boasts a rooftop cocktail bar and state-of-the-art facilities. The voco brand is expanding with several new hotels in Salisbury, Leicester, Manchester, and Folkestone, each bringing a distinct flavor to its location.
The Essentials and Suites segments are not left behind, with the Holiday Inn Wrexham and Staybridge Suites Belfast adding to the mix, catering to various guest needs, from sports enthusiasts to business travelers.
IHG’s growing portfolio in the UK and Ireland is further complemented by upcoming openings, including The Halyard Liverpool Vignette Collection, marking the brand’s UK debut, and several other notable properties.
As of September 2023, IHG operates 353 hotels in the region, with an additional 20 in development, demonstrating the company’s robust and diverse portfolio in the hospitality sector.
