Underbooking: When a hotel, airline, or other travel service has more available spaces or seats than there are reservations, which can lead to last-minute deals or upgrades for travelers.

Undertourism: A situation where a destination has fewer visitors than its potential or optimal number, often allowing for more sustainable tourism and a better experience for visitors and locals alike.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Landmarks or areas selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as having cultural, historical, scientific, or other forms of significance, legally protected by international treaties.

Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP): A global corporate travel payment solution accepted by airlines and travel merchants, allowing companies to manage their travel expenses and billing processes more efficiently.

Unlimited Mileage: A car rental policy that allows the renter to drive the vehicle without any restrictions on the distance traveled, often preferred by travelers planning to cover a lot of ground.

Unrestricted Fare: A type of airfare or travel ticket that is fully flexible, allowing changes and cancellations without penalty, and usually refundable, but typically more expensive than restricted fares.

UN Tourism (former UNWTO): The United Nations World Tourism Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. In January 2024, UNWTO rebranded as UN Tourism.

Upgrade: The act of increasing the quality or class of travel services, such as moving from economy to business class on a flight or from a standard room to a suite in a hotel, sometimes offered as a complimentary benefit or for an additional cost.

Upmarket: Refers to travel services and products designed for customers who are willing to spend more for luxury and high-quality experiences. These often include five-star hotels, gourmet dining, and exclusive tours.

Upscale: Refers to high-end or premium travel services and accommodations that offer superior quality, amenities, and exclusivity, catering to travelers seeking luxury experiences.

Urban/City Tourism: A type of tourism that involves visiting cities and urban areas, often characterized by cultural, historical, or architectural attractions, dining, entertainment, and shopping opportunities.
