Raleigh-Durham Just Got a New Ticket to a Tropical Escape

Avelo Airlines has announced a new nonstop flight route connecting Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Starting June 11, 2025, travelers from North Carolina will have a direct path to the island paradise, with flights operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The addition of this route strengthens Avelo Airlines’ growing presence in the Caribbean and offers North Carolina travelers a convenient and affordable way to experience the stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and world-class hospitality of The Bahamas.

A New Gateway to The Bahamas

The introduction of the Raleigh-Durham to Nassau route was met with enthusiasm from tourism and aviation officials. The Hon. I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, emphasized the significance of this expansion.

“We are excited to welcome this new service from Avelo Airlines. As a tourism and aviation destination leader, this service further affirms The Bahamas Government’s commitment to working closely with airline partners and industry stakeholders to aggressively grow air stopover arrivals throughout The Islands of The Bahamas.”

The Bahamas has long been a sought-after destination for American travelers, and this new direct connection from North Carolina makes it even easier for visitors to plan a quick getaway to the islands.

Expanding Airlift to the Caribbean

Latia Duncombe, Director General of Tourism for The Bahamas, highlighted the impact of expanding flight options for travelers.

“Expanding airlift remains a top priority for The Bahamas, and this new route strengthens our access from North Carolina—an important market for our destination. Avelo Airlines offers new nonstop service, making it even easier for travelers from Raleigh-Durham to experience our vibrant culture, world-class hospitality, and breathtaking islands.”

Avelo Airlines first began servicing Raleigh-Durham in 2022 and has steadily expanded its reach. This latest addition follows the airline’s recent foray into the Caribbean market, further positioning The Bahamas as a premier destination for U.S. travelers.

More Choices for North Carolina Travelers

For the past two years, Bahamasair has offered nonstop service from Raleigh-Durham to Freeport, Grand Bahama, with connecting flights to Nassau. Avelo’s new direct Nassau route adds another travel option, allowing passengers to bypass layovers and reach their tropical destination even faster.

Since its launch in April 2021, Avelo Airlines has flown more than 6.3 million customers on nearly 50,000 flights. This new Nassau route marks another milestone in its rapid expansion, giving travelers more choices for affordable and seamless international travel.

With the summer travel season approaching, Avelo Airlines’ new service provides an exciting opportunity for North Carolina residents to enjoy The Bahamas without the hassle of multiple connections. Whether it’s a relaxing beach vacation or an island adventure, this new route makes paradise just a flight away.
