Celestyal Cruises has announced the cancellation of its scheduled stops in Santorini for March and April 2025 due to ongoing seismic activity in the area.
The decision affects the company’s “Iconic Greek Islands” itinerary, with affected sailings now set to visit Heraklion instead.
The cruise line emphasized that the move aligns with recent guidance from the Greek government, prioritizing passenger safety. “We continuously monitor our global operations, including the recent seismic activity recorded in the Aegean,” Celestyal Cruises stated in an announcement on its website.
“In line with recent Greek government advice, we will be updating our itineraries, proactively replacing Santorini.”
The Greek government has declared a two-month state of emergency on the island, with travel restrictions, accommodation bans, and controlled access to key areas.
More Cruise Lines Drop Santorini from 2025 Itineraries
Celestyal Cruises is not the only company adjusting its plans. According to a report by Arxipelagos, at least three other cruise lines—Viking, Selectum Blu, and Miray—have also opted to cancel upcoming calls in Santorini, reported Cruise Industry News.
Viking Cruises, originally set to visit Santorini in February, removed additional stops from its schedule, redirecting the Viking Star to Mykonos and Nafplio instead. Meanwhile, Miray Cruises has replaced its March Santorini visits with stops in Syros. Selectum Blu, which launches its Mediterranean season later in 2025, has also rerouted its Blue Sapphire to Patmos.
Santorini’s Tourism Industry Faces Uncertainty
While Celestyal Cruises and other operators have confirmed their commitment to returning to Santorini once conditions stabilize, it remains unclear when that will be. Celestyal has tentatively set its return date for May 1, 2025, but ongoing seismic activity may influence further changes.
Other Cruise Lines Previously Canceled Santorini Calls
These latest cancellations follow similar decisions by other major cruise companies earlier in 2025. Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises, and AIDA Cruises had already adjusted their itineraries, citing safety concerns. With more cruise lines now opting to reroute, Santorini’s status as a premier cruise destination is facing temporary disruption.
As the situation develops, travelers with upcoming cruise itineraries that included Santorini are advised to check with their cruise lines for updates. For now, passengers on affected sailings will experience alternative destinations across the Aegean, such as Heraklion, Mykonos, and Patmos.
