The Trail Hotel in Bardstown, Kentucky, has joined the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experience as an official partner, becoming the only full-service hotel in the city with this designation.
The announcement, made this week, integrates the hotel into a network of more than 60 distilleries and partners across the state that draw millions of visitors each year.
Opened in May 2025, The Trail Hotel combines upscale amenities with Kentucky Bourbon culture, providing a unique hospitality option for visitors traveling along the Bourbon Trail®. The partnership positions the property as a central hub for Bourbon-focused tourism in Bardstown, which promotes itself as the “Bourbon Capital of the World.”
Trail Hotel Partnership Details
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail® was established in 1999 by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) to connect visitors with the history, production, and culture of Kentucky’s most iconic industry. Today it includes both legendary distilleries and emerging craft producers, all united under the goal of preserving and strengthening the Bourbon sector. The Trail Hotel’s partnership adds accommodations to the program, giving travelers a full-service lodging option embedded directly in the experience.
“We are honored to become an official partner of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experience and represent the next evolution of Bourbon tourism in the State,” said Jason Thompson, Director of Bourbon Experiences and Sales of The Trail Hotel. “Our mission has always been to celebrate Bourbon not just as a drink, but as a way of life. And now, along the route of one’s Bourbon Trail™ journey, we’re thrilled to welcome guests from around the world to experience that vision firsthand.”
Amenity Highlights
The Trail Hotel is housed in a restored historic property featuring 95 guest rooms, including eight signature suites. Amenities include the Oak & Ember restaurant, a four-star dining venue; five bars, among them a speakeasy; a golf simulator; and the Rejuvenation Room, a wellness space with a sauna, oxygen bar, cryotherapy, and IV hydration therapy. Together, these features combine luxury accommodations with immersive connections to Kentucky’s Bourbon culture.
By joining the Bourbon Trail®, the hotel becomes an integral stop for visitors exploring Bardstown’s surrounding distilleries. The integration of hospitality and cultural programming is intended to extend visitor stays, increase spending in the local economy, and reinforce Bardstown’s role as a central hub for Kentucky Bourbon tourism.

Kentucky Bourbon Trail Growth
Since its founding, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® has grown from seven original distilleries to more than 60 destinations across the state. The program has become a cornerstone of Kentucky tourism, drawing visitors from around the world for an inside look at Bourbon’s history, production, and tasting culture. Bardstown, home to multiple member distilleries, has been at the heart of this growth.
In 2024, the Bourbon Trail® reported a record 2.7 million visitors, up from 2.5 million in 2023, with more than three-quarters traveling from outside the state. Visitors typically stay longer and spend more than the average tourist, providing benefits across hotels, restaurants, and shops. The popularity of the trail underscores Bourbon’s global reach and its importance to Kentucky’s economy.
The industry contributes an estimated $9 billion annually, supports more than 23,000 jobs, and provides about $2.2 billion in salaries and benefits. Distillers have invested $1.9 billion in capital projects over the past decade, with another $3.5 billion planned in the next five years. Bourbon production also supports agriculture, with more than 21 million bushels of Kentucky-grown corn and grains purchased in 2023 for distilling.
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail® marked its 25th anniversary in 2024 with rebranding initiatives and new digital planning tools, including a “Build Your Own Bourbon Trail” feature. The campaign was designed to attract younger audiences while maintaining ties to tradition, helping ensure the trail’s continued growth as a cultural and economic driver.
Positioning Bardstown at the Center
The Trail Hotel’s entry into the Bourbon Trail® strengthens Bardstown’s position as a must-visit destination for enthusiasts. Known for its historic charm and concentration of distilleries, the city now offers a lodging experience that reflects the same culture visitors find in their tours. The property is also expected to attract corporate groups and events, adding another layer to Bardstown’s hospitality landscape.
For the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, partnerships like this illustrate the integration of Bourbon into all aspects of Kentucky tourism. By expanding beyond distilleries into accommodations and other visitor services, the Bourbon Trail® ensures travelers can connect with the culture in multiple dimensions, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most distinctive themed travel experiences.
Outlook for Bourbon Tourism
The Trail Hotel is expected to play a role in sustaining and growing Bourbon tourism in Kentucky. By offering high-end amenities within a heritage-rich property, it provides travelers with a seamless connection between their distillery visits and their overnight stays. The integration of wellness and lifestyle features alongside Bourbon-themed spaces reflects a modern approach to thematic hospitality.
As Bourbon tourism continues its rapid expansion, the partnership between The Trail Hotel and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® demonstrates how lodging and attractions can work together to drive economic growth and cultural engagement. With record visitation numbers and continued investment across the industry, Bardstown and its newest partner are positioned at the forefront of one of America’s most successful tourism stories.
