ESS Group has opened Rox Resort, a new luxury coastal hotel located in the harbor town of Køge, 27 minutes outside Copenhagen, expanding Denmark’s high-end hospitality offering beyond the capital.
The resort, which opened in November 2025, features 156 rooms and suites and positions itself as a wellness-focused retreat with uninterrupted ocean views across Denmark’s southern coast. Room rates start from $640 per night based on double occupancy, including breakfast.
The opening marks a new phase for Køge as a tourism destination, combining contemporary Nordic design with large-scale leisure and meeting facilities. Rox Resort is designed to attract both international travelers and domestic guests seeking a coastal escape within easy reach of Copenhagen. ESS Group describes the property as a blend of modern comfort and Danish hygge culture.
Design, rooms, and wellness concept
The interiors of Rox Resort are designed by Spik Studios, ESS Group’s in-house creative arm, and draw inspiration from 1920s aesthetics combined with Nordic restraint. Design elements include chalk-toned walls, soft velvets, brass finishes, rattan and crystal lighting, and fire-lit lounge spaces. These features are intended to create intimate social areas alongside larger communal spaces.
The resort offers 156 rooms and suites, most with private balconies overlooking the marina, nearby forest, or open ocean. ESS Group says the layout prioritizes views and natural light, positioning guest rooms as a central part of the coastal experience. The scale of the accommodation places Rox Resort among the larger high-end properties in the region.
A key feature of the property is the rooftop Pool Club, which combines heated indoor and outdoor pools, loungers, fire pits, and a glass-framed sauna overlooking the sea. The wellness offering also includes a Fire & Chill room, spa treatment rooms, and a fully equipped fitness center. Guests have access to additional recreational facilities such as two padel courts, a five-a-side football field, an indoor games area, and nine meeting rooms.
The Pool Club includes The Dumpling Bar, serving Asian-inspired dim sum and cocktails throughout the day. ESS Group positions the rooftop area as both a wellness and social hub, catering to leisure travelers as well as groups and corporate retreats.
Dining, location, and regional appeal
Rox Resort’s dining program is anchored by R.F. SMITH Steakhouse, which spans the hotel’s ground floor and offers British-inspired dishes with a Sichuan influence. The menu includes items such as Gillardeau Oysters, Sweet Langoustine Carpaccio, and Black Sea Trout, paired with international wine labels and local craft beers.
The resort features five bars, including a rooftop Pool Bar, a Lobby Lounge bar, and the Birdcage Bar. Located on the upper corner of the hotel and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass, the Birdcage Bar overlooks the Øresund strait and focuses on classic cocktails alongside bespoke creations. ESS Group positions the bars as social spaces designed to encourage conversation and extended stays.
Beyond the resort, Rox benefits from proximity to Køge’s historic center, located less than 1.8 miles away. The medieval town is home to Denmark’s oldest dated timbered house from 1527 and Køge Torv, one of the country’s largest preserved medieval market squares. Nearby attractions also include the Køge marina, which features an open-water pool and active local sailing culture.
ESS Group highlights Rox Resort’s location as a strategic base for exploring Denmark’s wider cultural landscape. Within 30 minutes, guests can reach three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, adding cultural tourism appeal to the resort’s coastal and wellness focus. The group positions Rox Resort as a destination designed to slow travel pace while remaining connected to major cultural and urban centers.
With its scale, wellness infrastructure, and proximity to Copenhagen, Rox Resort enters the market as one of the most significant hotel openings in the region in recent years. ESS Group says the property is intended to serve as both a leisure retreat and a venue for meetings and events, reflecting growing demand for hybrid hospitality experiences in Scandinavia.
