American Airlines has opened a transformed Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, introducing more than 60 new dining, retail, Duty Free and experiential concepts in what the carrier describes as a major step forward in its international gateway offering.
The revamped terminal features The Boroughs Food Hall as its centrepiece, alongside a hidden speakeasy called Blinded Tiger, first-to-airport concepts including Eataly and Peach Palace by Momofuku, and a reimagined Duty Free and retail environment spanning both luxury and lifestyle brands. Around 20 local brands are included in the lineup, drawing on the culture and character of New York City and the Queens neighbourhood.
A Terminal Built Around the Customer
The overhaul extends beyond food and retail. Terminal 8 will also feature premium check-in facilities, expanded lounge offerings, upgraded baggage infrastructure and improved gate areas with enhanced seating. The expansion has also enabled several of American’s partner airlines to collocate within the terminal alongside existing oneworld alliance partners.
“Everything we do at Terminal 8 is designed around one goal: delivering a better experience for our customers,” said Amanda Zhang, Vice President of Corporate Real Estate at American Airlines. “This opening represents a major step forward in how we serve customers traveling through JFK — bringing together modern design, improved amenities and thoughtful details that make travel feel easier and more enjoyable.”
Terminal 8 serves as American’s primary international gateway at JFK and is central to the airline’s New York operations. American carries more than 14 million passengers through New York City annually on more than 240 daily flights to over 95 destinations worldwide.
