American Airlines and the Miami HEAT have renewed their long-running sponsorship agreement, extending the airline’s role as the Official Airline of the Miami HEAT while expanding travel rewards and game-day experiences for fans.
The multiyear extension strengthens American Airlines’ long-term investment in Miami, where the carrier operates its largest gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. The partnership includes in-arena promotions at Kaseya Center, exclusive fan experiences and new opportunities for AAdvantage loyalty members.
American Airlines said members of its AAdvantage® loyalty programme will gain access to sweepstakes, VIP experiences, signed merchandise giveaways and travel opportunities to selected away games throughout the NBA season.
Fans will also be able to redeem AAdvantage® miles for access to games and special experiences linked to the Miami HEAT.
“The Miami HEAT and our American Airlines Miami hub have grown in tandem for nearly 40 years, playing key anchor roles in shaping Miami into the thriving global city it is today,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, Vice President of MIA Operations at American Airlines.
“From the jump, this partnership has embodied the heart, hustle and commitment to excellence that runs deep through the Miami community, and we’re proud to continue inspiring and connecting fans as the Official Airlines of the Miami HEAT.”
“American Airlines has been a valued partner of the Miami HEAT for more than two decades,” said John Vidalin, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer for the Miami HEAT.
“This multiyear extension reflects our shared commitment to Miami and to creating meaningful experiences that bring our fans closer to the team.”
The renewed agreement builds on more than 25 years of collaboration between the airline and the NBA franchise. Earlier this year, American Airlines celebrated its 100th anniversary while the Miami HEAT marked the 20th anniversary of the club’s 2006 NBA Championship team.
As part of those celebrations, American served as the Presenting Partner of a commemorative game that included social media campaigns, in-game branding and a postgame concert featuring Dwyane Wade.
The event also provided exclusive access for 100 AAdvantage® members, including priority viewing areas, signed merchandise giveaways and photo opportunities with the 2006 NBA Finals Championship trophy.
Beyond sports marketing, the two organisations continue to support community programmes across South Florida. Recent initiatives included HEAT Day of Service presented by American, which provided groceries to underserved communities and supported improvement projects at the Overtown Youth Center with Alonzo Mourning.
The sponsorship renewal also comes as American Airlines continues expanding its Miami operations. Earlier this year, the airline announced plans for a new Concourse D expansion project at Miami International Airport in partnership with Miami-Dade County.
The Gate D60 development will introduce new gates designed for modern aircraft and aims to improve the passenger experience at one of the busiest international gateways in the Americas.
American Airlines operated 19 daily flights to six cities from Miami International Airport in 1989. Today, the airline operates more than 400 peak daily departures to 170 destinations across 46 countries and territories, serving more than 32 million customers annually through Miami.
The carrier has also announced plans for a new Flagship® lounge and an expansion of its Admirals Club® facilities at Miami International Airport.
Recent investments include new self-service kiosks, TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID technology and Enhanced Passenger Processing systems designed to speed up security and customs procedures while maintaining security standards.
