Qatar Airways has removed flights to Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport from its 2026/27 winter schedule, pausing the Doha route between 16 September 2026 and 27 March 2027. The airline is also reducing its overall one-way departure capacity from Doha by about 7% as part of a wider seasonal planning move.
The change means there will be no Qatar Airways flights on the Sabiha Gokcen route during the winter season, with the earliest possible return date listed as 28 March 2027. The airline also dropped the planned A321neo operation on the route from the updated schedule.
Qatar Airways is suspending services on 13 destinations in total while keeping flights to Mashhad, Shiraz and Tehran in Iran in the timetable. The airline has not given a public explanation beyond capacity planning, but the update marks one of the most significant changes to its Istanbul and regional network for the winter period.
The suspension affects one of the carrier’s key links to Türkiye’s largest city and comes as airlines across the industry adjust schedules to match seasonal demand. For travellers, the move will mean fewer direct options between Doha and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen over the winter months, particularly for those using the airport as a connecting point to and from Asia, the Middle East and beyond.
Qatar Airways’ network changes also highlight how major carriers often rebalance capacity well before the start of winter. In this case, the revised schedule suggests the airline is prioritising other markets while temporarily stepping back from Sabiha Gokcen and several other destinations.
Industry watchers will now look to see whether the route returns as planned in late March 2027 or whether further changes follow. The timetable already shows that the suspension is tied to the 2026/27 winter season, making the restoration date dependent on future planning decisions.
The omission of the Istanbul route is particularly notable because Qatar Airways has been expanding and adjusting its international network through a series of seasonal and operational changes. Even with the Sabiha Gokcen pause, the carrier’s continued service to Iranian cities shows that the cuts are selective rather than a broad withdrawal from the wider region.
For passengers, the immediate impact will be on winter travel planning. Anyone expecting to fly the Doha-Sabiha Gokcen route during the affected period will need to look at alternative schedules, other Istanbul airports or connecting itineraries.
Airline schedule updates can shift quickly, but for now the revised timetable indicates a clear pause on the route across most of the winter season. The move reflects the practical realities of fleet and demand management, particularly on long-haul and network-carrier operations where even small percentage changes can affect multiple markets.
